How to eliminate multiple Chart Status Bars
Hi,
I have Win10 and V5.0 with only ENC and RNC charts loaded. Apparently from initial install and finding charts, the screen shows 11 (eleven!) chart status bars. I would have expected only 2 and all I can do is "hide" the bars. Most of the bars lead to charts that are over magnified and/or colored. While they don't seem to be hurting anything, they surely are annoying. I've searched and search for how to control these with no luck.
How do I totally eliminate all the unnecessary status bars?
Thanks,
Armand

Re: How to eliminate multiple Chart Status Bars
BCN,
Thanks. Thinking a screen shot of all 11 would be too long to fit, I cut it to 6.

Seems like you have too many charts in one big directory and too many poor quality charts in them, and 'O' displays all which are available for where you are.
Reorganize your charts into folders (outside of Open CPN, using windows file management tools for example) deleting poor quality and duplicate charts and putting them in folders which you can add or delete in 'O'. You can add and remove folders in the "Charts" tab on 'O' settings as you need them.
In the attached image you can see (on the left) my chart folders, and on the right the ones I am using in 'O' right now.
I am sure there are other ways of doing this, this is simple and works for me.

Re: How to eliminate multiple Chart Status Bars
Wingsail & others,
I decided to delete the chart folders and charts. However, something must have misfired as I only downloaded the RNC and ENC charts for California.
I downloaded them again, but do not have a GPS on O at home, so will check on which shows up when it reconnects. If that fails, I'll indeed collect selected charts into folders as suggested.
I have not used OpenCPN while away from the dock, but am looking forward to it. I currently use Coastal Navigator and another program too far back in my memory bank.
Thanks to all,
Armand

Re: How to eliminate multiple Chart Status Bars
Armand,
what you see is completely normal and intended.
The chart bar represents the charts you have actually at your fingertips on your display. Ordered by scale.
There is more information in the manual.

To really make a difference, use "Chart Groups" in addition to cleaning up your folders. Only charts from the selected chart group will be shown.

Re: How to eliminate multiple Chart Status Bars
BNC,
I totally missed this in the manual. Since almost all of them were not usable, I just didn't think this was right. However, since they are only a minor annoyance, and normal, I can surely live with the extra links.
Thanks,
Armand

Re: How to eliminate multiple Chart Status Bars
Cagney,
Since these are normal, I'll not let them bother me :=). And, be darned if I can easily tell by numbers/names which chart links are overscale and what not to easily do any organizing. I do hope to get better with OpenCPN as I use it more. FYI-The main reason I'm planning to switch from Coastal Explorer is so I can overlay radar onto the chart. While I'm looking forward to a broadband radar and integration, I'll have to admit that my Furuno 1712 radar (though outdated) has never let me down.
Thanks,
Armand
