High Res Background Map on Mac

Hello I am new to OpenCPN. Does the High Res background work on a Mac?

I have tried to install the High Res Background Map but do not see the instructions regarding where to place the GshhsHiRes folder. Below are the instructions for PC and Linux from the manual.

Install by unzipping and placing the files in the <install_dir>/gshhs .
<install_dir> is normally ...Program Files/OpenCPN on Windows and /usr/share/opencpn/ on a Linux default installation.

I placed the unzipped folder /Applications/gshhs/ but OpenCPN does not seem to see it.

If High Res works on Mac where do I place the folder for OpenCPN to read and how do I activate?

You have to copy the files (not the folder, just it's contents) to

/Applications/OpenCPN.app/Contents/SharedSupport/gshhs/

like this

and start OpenCPN. No further "activation" is needed.
