Hiding AtoN's in AIS Target List

I like to keep my AIS target list open, however it get's pretty filled up with AtoN entries. I've tried sorting which helps, but would like to filter them out if possible.

Does anyone know a way to do this?

There currently is no way to do it. Feel free to create a feature request in the tracker.

Just curious; where are you that you're getting lots of AtoN AIS targets?

I've heard about them, but I have yet to see one.

Hi CaptTom,

I'm located in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. The AtoN's that I'm picking up are mostly in Winyah Bay, Georgetown, SC which is a dredged large ship channel.

See the screenshot attached.

Darn, I was just in Winyah Bay last week, but I hadn't found out yet that the PO had turned off the AIS input to the chartplotters.

Even if your AIS input to the the chartplotter was active you might not have seen the AtoN targets. My 15 year old Raymarine C120 does not recognize the AtoN target type and does not display the targets nor show them in the target list. It looks like the AtoN target type was added after the last software update to the C120 around 2009. Also the target icons are difficult to see in OpenCPN (although they are in the AIS list) because they are plotted on top of the existing chart icon.
I'm guessing the principal purpose of the AtoN targets is make the marks visible on a radar display rather than a chart display.

Re: Hiding AtoN's in AIS Target List

There is no easy way, but if you really want, you can hide them by adding every separate mmsi numbers to the mmsi-ignore list. (Options->Ships->mmsi properties)
This will hide the AtoN's from screen and from the ais-targetlist.
Be aware that, as there is only a limited number of mmsi numbers available, you might also block wanted AtoN's

Aid to Navigation. Some of them we see around here are for the location of dolphin pilings, wave rider buoys, cardinal mark buoys, and the ilk.
