To tell you something:
I'm now a pensioner. 10 years ago I owned a company for car diagnostics mainly to connect a common computer to a car using the cars standard OBD2 connector via my devices for USB, Bluetooth or WiFi. If one of my programmers comes with such solutions as seen in OpenCPN he was fired.

What you are asking for here exists is provided in the system report. To access: Apple menu -> "About this Mac" -> "System Report..." -> "USB"

Gerhard..

you don't analyze nor criticize solutions you are describing as ill borne.
So I can believe you or not.
That Mr. Trump is wealthy does not help to discern his arguments.

The question if you know better is then just one that only concerns you.
Arguments, critics and ideas on the table.

Re: Help needed. USB Receiver Connection.

Thanks the help of Gerhard, I was able to solve the problems. GPS is running on both systems now. On Mac as well as on Win 10 on Parallels.

Best regards

Arwed...

perhaps it would be nice to describe in short form
- the problem(s) and
- the solutions(s)

so in case any other user runs into a similar problem to have the solution at hand.

Re: Help needed. USB Receiver Connection.

Hi Hubert,

with Mac OSX 10.11.4, which didn't recognize the BU-353s4 receiver first, the solution was a restart of the system and a couple of minutes of patience, until the signals of the receiver showed up.

With Win 10 on Parallels 11 it also was a restart and a replugging of the receiver until a window popped up, which allows to decide to which of the computers the device shall be connected. After connecting to Windows the port was visible in the options window of openCPN and I could click apply and it worked. Huuuh.

Regards
Arwed

Re: Help needed. USB Receiver Connection.

Thanks aguenther. Do you have any suggestions to improve the "getting started" -gps portion of the User Manual? opencpn.org
In an effort to help others?

Re: Help needed. USB Receiver Connection.

My suggestions were: Give also some advice for users of virtulising software like Parallels and VM and keep up with latest versions of Windows and Mac, taking in account the changes what device managers etc. concerns as well as the fact, taht for instance BU-353 will not work with Win 10, You must buy a new one BU-353s4.

Re: Help needed. USB Receiver Connection.

Thank you Aguenther.

We've changed the GPS section to be more helpful, adding a Windows 10 section and Virtualization Paragraph at the bottom.
GPS Setup | Official OpenCPN Homepage

OpenCPN Documentation is "User Powered". It's success or failure is a reflection of the User Community's dedication to providing good quality documentation, and is a direct reflection on each of us.

I hope you will add comments to this section to help improve the documentation. Thank you for contributing!
