Toolbar always loose pluginbutton on Mac

Hi,

I have installed the lookbook and finder plugin on my Mac (Catalina, open cpm 5.2.4).

when I restart opencpn the toolbar does not show the plugin buttons any more even the plugin is activated.
I have to deactivate and reactivate it, the the plugins are shown in the toolbar again until closing opencpn

I don not know if the problem is caused by opencpn or the plugin...

Re: Help / FAQ

Today I have deleted the installation including opencpn files in library.
Then I started with a new clean install.
Same bug. The logbook plugin is enabled after restarting opencpn but not visible in the toolbar

Re: Help / FAQ

Hello Molly21, Sorry, I don't know anything about Mac's. Try to post your question as a "New Post"... I am new to forums and still learning about how to ask questions, etc...

Re: Help / FAQ

Haken... thanks for your help. I used PuTTY to view the COM port data. There is one line of un-readable trash at at the beginning, the rest is in the expected form. PuTTY had the same effect on my CPU (high usage "Windows Driver Foundation" 28% and Telnet program 13%... I will contact u-blox again and request a fix... John

OpenCPN 5.2 crashes when transferring routes and tracks

When transferring the route to Garmin GPSmap, OpenCPN 5.2 crashes.

The problem arises with 2 different laptops: Windows10 and Windows7.

It also crashes with 2 different Garmin models - both connected via usb.
Garmin GPSmap 76CSx and with the GPSmap 276Cx (mass storage mode).

With OpenCPN 5.0 everything works fine.

Does anyone have the same problem and has it solved?

Thanks in advance.

To delete MOB, go to waypoint manager (lefthand column), then waypoints, scroll to MOB, highlight, then delete (be careful not to "delete all"...).

Can anybody point me in the right direction to fix this.
OpenCPN worked fine before running 5.0.0. Today the 5.0.0. showed this screen, after an upgrade to 5.2.0 the issue remained.

thanks,
Steef

This problem is discussed from this post through post 1700. I have the same issue. O works without Opengl, does not with Opengl box checked.

Lenovo P50
Nvidia Quadro M2000M
Windows 10 Pro

I've just reinstalled Opencpn, latest drivers from MS, Lenovo, and finally Nvidia. None of my other applications have any problem.

Graphics/zoom/panning performance

Hi all

I'm having issues in OpenCPN 5.2.4 and swedish oeSENC charts with performance while zooming and panning. It stutters and freezes for as long as a few seconds when zooming in and I'm quite sure it's related to the loading and purging of charts. I see alot of lines like

Code:
13:43:22.592 MESSAGE chartdb.cpp:1299 OpenChartUsingCache: type 8 /home/erik/.opencpn/oesenc_pi/sgl001D6904-SE-2021-6/OC-46-3EFIF5.oesenc
13:43:22.592 MESSAGE chartdb.cpp:1169 Searching chart cache for oldest entry
13:43:22.592 MESSAGE chartdb.cpp:1194 All chart in cache locked, size: 11
13:43:22.592 MESSAGE chartdb.cpp:1346 Creating new chart
13:43:22.592 MESSAGE chartdb.cpp:1475 Initializing Chart /home/erik/.opencpn/oesenc_pi/sgl001D6904-SE-2021-6/OC-46-3EFIF5.oesenc
13:43:22.788 MESSAGE chartdb.cpp:1296 OpenChartUsingCache, NOT in cache: cache size: 12

13:43:22.788 MESSAGE chartdb.cpp:1299 OpenChartUsingCache: type 8 /home/erik/.opencpn/oesenc_pi/sgl001D6904-SE-2021-6/OC-46-3EFIH4.oesenc

13:43:22.788 MESSAGE chartdb.cpp:1475 Initializing Chart /home/erik/.opencpn/oesenc_pi/sgl001D6904-SE-2021-6/OC-46-3EFIH4.oesenc
13:43:22.880 MESSAGE chartdb.cpp:1194 All chart in cache locked, size: 13
in the log file. I also noticed there is a bug report with similar issues: https://opencpn.org/flyspray/index.p...s&task_id=2707

I also read in the docs about config parameters NCacheLimit and MEMCacheLimit, but I couldn't see them in my config file. Are these obsolete in 5.2.4? I tried to add them with different values but nothing seems to be better.

The swedish charts are quite detailed and contains alot of objects/symbols and there are also many different scaled charts in the same area. I believe this creates a bottle neck when zooming. I do have the same behavior in less detailed areas, but not as severe as in the more detailed areas.

Are there any settings/configurations I can use to make OpenCPN behave differently? My thoughts are along the line of increasing cache or prohibit the purging of charts from cache (to a limit).

I tried most, if not all, of the settings regarding zoom factors, chart details etc from within the GUI. These settings makes things behave differently but it's not really solving the issue.

My setup is:
Lenovo ThinkPad W541, Intel i7-4710MQ @ 2.50GHz
Nvidia Quadro K1100M (GK107GLM) GPU with 390.141 Nvidia driver
Linux Mint 20.1

Thanks
/Erik

Erik..

yes, the Swedish charts are a real challenge same as the Finish ones.

You might want to play with the zoom detail settings at Options|Display|Advanced
Helps to hide details on quilted charts when not zoomed in.
When zoomed in the split screen can show the detail chart - even not quilted but in single chart mode.

Thanks Hubert

I did fiddle whit it and it sure helps readability and also reduces stutter/freezes but only down to the levels of a few seconds. With too much details the freezes are far longer.

Watching the log file live and having a resonable zoom detail level I can time the stutters with the entries in the log. If I pan the chart so that a new (unloaded) chart comes into view, I have a stutter every time. The same chart are purge and loaded repeatedly if I pan left and right several times. Having a setting that increases the cache would allow charts to be purged when the cache is full rather than when they are not in view. This would reduce these problems I believe.

Re: Help / FAQ

I have been using OpenCPN and love it ....Thanks to all the developers for making it truly amazing!

That said I just upgraded from 4.X.Working to 5.2.4 so I can use mbtiles and I'm having a rough time with many issues unrelated to mbtiles -haven't got to that part yet as I'd just like to get to something I can use to navigate again without rolling back to 4.0.X.

1. OpenGL is broken for my Macbook 12" 2017 Renta with OpenGL 4.1 that worked great on OpenCPN 4.X but now is just a black screen in OpenGL mode. Any ideas? Current Mac OS is 10.14.4 Mojove.

2. Having a tough time reading certain diaglog boxes as the well intended color scheme has some issues. See images below.

3. CM92 charts have black squares everywhere at certain zoom levels.

4. Plugin Icons on tool bar are rather puzzling showing meaningless generic icons.

Thanks but I'm not finding a "Dark Mode" setting only Change Color Scheme which only offers worse looking settings.
