Re: Help / FAQ

Hi all,

when I start opencpn, I get the following image: Click image for larger version

Name:	opencpn_screen.jpg
Views:	120
Size:	237.6 KB
ID:	221949
Can anybody point me in the right direction to fix this.
OpenCPN worked fine before running 5.0.0. Today the 5.0.0. showed this screen, after an upgrade to 5.2.0 the issue remained.

thanks,
Steef

Re: Help / FAQ

When does it work? With OpenGL off?
Then your graphics driver is not ok, or not up-to-date.

Without OpenGL some operations will slow down. The radar plug-in will not work at all without OpenGL.

Re: Help / FAQ

Hi,

It works when OpenGL is turned off. When I turn it on again, the screen freezes (that is zoom in and out no longer work) then when I restart OpenCPN, then screen show the green lines again like in the picture I uploaded before.

I have a brand new Dell XPS17 notebook (2months old), with Windows 10 and all the latest updates installed. If you require exact versions of individual components I can send you those.

OpenCPN worked on this notebook with OpenGL turned on before my holidays. I was away for 4 weeks, after my return I updated the notebook. Then 2 weeks later I tried OpenCPN again and found the issue.

kind regards,
Steef

Re: Help / FAQ

I’ve been using OpenCPN for many years. It has been excellent on every count. I just started sailing longer routes and have been encountering a problem where when trying to use a route with two waypoints more than 700 NM apart, the application crashes. Is there a maximum route length between waypoints?

Thanks,

Tim

Tim,
I can look into this. Please tell us as much as you can about the exact steps to reproduce the crash. For example, what do you mean by “use a route”?

Tim,

I have tried to reproduce the issue you have mentioned here. I have not seen any crash. I will look again if you can give me some help by describing what led up to the crash in as much detail as you can.

You are missing that as of OpenCPN 5.2 the recommended way to install on all Linux distros except Ubuntu and Debian is by using Flatpak.
The opencpn.org instructions are not quite up to date.

You must use Display category "User Standard". This is nothing new as such. What is new is that "User Standard Objects" are greyed out if the correct Display Category is not selected. This is the same pattern that was used in OpenCPN 4.8.x. In OpenCPN 5.0 users were allowed to "think" that changes were made, while in reality no changes happened unless "Users Standard" was selected.

Ah, super, I might actually have asked the same question before

Re: Need help with Fedora install

Thomas - thanks. That worked.

Is there an easy way to put an icon on the desktop, or is the flatpak invocation recommended?

Re: Help / FAQ

Thomas, with the last version of OpenCPN 5.2.0, Otidalplan does not work anymore. Why and what should we do to correct?
