HELP basic opencpn

I am new to the forum - Have installed opencpn software can get charts from nautical charts and pubs, OK even get the enc charts I need BUT I cannot open them in the tools chart window. they have a zip ext I believe and I cannot open them. Intend to use mylap top as backup for my chart plotter

You need to extract the zip files to a folder. Then you need to use the Tools> Charts to show the Active Chart Directories (Sub folders will be read). Then check Force Full Database Rebuild and click on OK. That should build the database and make the charts visible.
