Harmonic files in 5.6.0

Windows installation of OpenCPN 5.6.0 replaced the "HARMONIC" and "HARMONIC.IDX" files used in 5.2.4 with a single "harmonics-dwf-20210110-free.tcd" file and a pair of "HARMONICS_NO_US" files. Is the intent is to use the .tcd file in US waters and the "HARMONICS_NO_US" files everywhere else?

At least in Maine waters, with both files active, I see the current data from both the .tcd and HARMONICS_NO_US overlayed on top of each other. Frequently, the HARMONICS_NO_US data is on top and obscures the .tcd marker. Since HARMONICS_NO_US uses St John as the reference station, it can be significantly less accurate than the .tcd data which appears to use the NOAA reference stations. I know I can leave only one of the data sources active, but this seems like an unnecessary added complexity. Was this the intent of the developers?

Ziggy...
"Is the intent is to use the .tcd file in US waters and the "HARMONICS_NO_US" files everywhere else?"

Yes, that is the intent.
Will you post a screenshot showing the conflicting data/location?

Thanks
Dave

Dave,

Attached are a few screenshots for one location (Isle Au Haute Bay) that shows weird behavior. It now appears to me that .tcd file by itself can result in two different current arrows at the same spot. The HARMONICS_NO_USA file by itself always results in a single arrow. The .tcd file seems to use the Portland Harbor entrance as the reference station, but the HARMONICS_NO_USA uses Grand Manan Channel as the reference. Despite showing two current arrows pointing in different directions, both the .tcd and HARMONICS_NO_USA seem to show identical current graphs.

By the way, the program crashed on a couple of occasions when I was switching between the two harmonics files. I did send in the crash report both times.

Hope this helps,

Mark
