1. Can OpenCPN on a Pi 4 run the radar plugins?
2. Chromebooks: The Samsung 3 Atom Chromebook https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Chromebook-Memory-802-11ac-500C13/dp/B0824WGNSZ/ref=sr_1_9?crid=2P46SKS6OT9ND&keywords=samsung+chr omebook&qid=1578667121&s=electronics&sprefix=samsu ng+chro%2Celectronics%2C141&sr=1-9 , can it run OpenCPN as a Linux app? It sounds like now Chrome allows installing Linux applications?
3. If no to #2, can the Chromebook be reloaded with Mint without having to do some weird dance to make it work every time you turn it on?
4. Will this run radar plugins?

Question 1:
I'd say yes, no problem. About a year ago a participant on our Spanish forum foronavegantes.net posted a couple of videos showing how a Simrad radar works on an Rpi 3+. Here they are:

Question 2:
I can't tell you exactly, it depends on the device. I have a chromebox where I could install Linux and run it at the same time as chromeOS without losing performance. I finally installed Ubuntu because I liked it better. I would say that with a device that uses ChromeOS it is almost always possible to do something with Linux but it depends a lot on each manufacturer and device.

Question 3:
Normally yes but as I said before it depends a little bit on each device. The ideal is to remove the chromeOS system and install everything from the scratch. For some people this can be a simple task but for others it can be a complex one.


Question 4:
Well... of course.

I would say that Raspberry pi 4 is your simplest option.

Just to confirm.
Using radar_pi in OCPN on RPi3 or RPi4 is as good as on any other system. Of course zoom and chart move actions are faster on a RPi4 due to better performance. OpenGl is though essential for radar_pi. On both my RPi I run Rasbian and have set it to: GL Full (KMS) in: raspi-config -> Advanced options -> GL Driver.

There are other methods for this but it works for me.
