GXRadar Setup and General Questions

I recently purchased a Garmin Fantom 24 radar and 1042xsv chartplotter. As well I a running a Win 7 computer with OpenCPN 4.8.0. At present no TCIP networking is setup.
Before starting in on the hardware setup I would like to know if I choose to run this setup in Master Mode type 1 can the two devices (the chartplotter and the PC monitor ) be set to different chart scales at the same time?

If I am running the Radar turned on on the OpenCPN will that affect any "regular" screen operations on the Chartplotter? Does the chartplotter "sense" that the radar has been powered up by the OCPN and update it's screen to show that the radar has spun up?
Thanks

Re: GXRadar Setup and General Questions

I think you are assuming greater integration between devices than is possible, but others may have more specific ideas.

Are you sure the Garmin Fantom24 Radar will work with Opencpn Gradar_pi?
Look in the wiki for more information, doing a search for radar or gradar

Re: GXRadar Setup and General Questions

Well the Garmin Fantom 24 is just a minor upgrade to the Garmin HD radars so I am assuming the plugin should be compatible - maybe I am mistaken but willing to setup and see.
Just wondering how the use of the manual switch in network wiring afftects the response of the chartplotter itself. I don't expect a lot of bells and whistles with the porting of radar to the PC but just want to make sure in doing so I am not limiting the Chartplotter in doing so.
Just curious if even with the Garmins HD;s that are in use on OpenCPN - Do they allow full independent control of map scale in both devices?

Re: GXRadar Setup and General Questions

Great, so you're willing to try it.
Take a look at the wiki or manual from opencpn.org. - manual. Then search on gradar for install details and compatibilty.
