Re: GRIB2 PlugIn

Jean Pierre,

it is a very old problem: No one ever knows how to handle datatypes in wxWidgets. There has always been mismatches with int, long, float, chart and so on.

Re: GRIB2 PlugIn

JeanPierre...

I pushed another commit to grib2 branch correcting the scrambled date/time fields in the GRIB control bar. Tested on linux and Win OK.

I never saw a crash on Windows with "copyFirstCumulativeRecord" function. But this certainly could be related to the bad code in the time indicators. There was some uninitialized data, and this can create havoc anywhere.

Thanks for testing
Dave

Re: GRIB2 PlugIn

Some questions about Rtofs time interval and interpolation, for the purpose of improving and operation of Weather_routing_pi.

Re: GRIB2 PlugIn

Grib2 is a moving target, with new developments and applications.
David Burch explains some of them in his blog - David Burch Navigation Blog - see the article "NDFD: Oceanic, CONUS, and Regional".
The article states that OpenCPN does not support Grib2, see a discussion here -David Burch Navigation Blog: International List of Weather Services. Check the end of the page.

OpenCPN does support grib2 with the file extensions of .grib2 and .grb2 if they are in a "in a plain Lat-Lon grid" or Mercator projection.

To fully support NDFD, especially the CONUS part, OpenCPN needs to be able to read
*Lamberts Conformal Conical Projection
*The .bin file format

This is definitely something to consider for OpenCPN 4.8.

Re: GRIB2 PlugIn

Thanks Dave, I think that is what I am using now, since you probably have it in the downloads for v4.6.1
Thomas, as always you are helpful. I had been reading Dave Burch's blog in trying to find an answer to getting 3hr currents from RTOFS but did not see that post.

NOAA has "deprecated" or stopped Atlantic ROTFS and is now using the "Global RTOFS database, which no longer has the capability of "grib" selection to narrow the lat/long and parameters to what is needed. This is why Saildocs no longer has 12hr currents, I believe. However we should be able to get "prognostic" 3hr currents of a certain area Globally, because Noaa has it in the Global RTOFS database. I look forward to that time!

Combined with the ability to load two grib files, it will be very useful.
