Re: GRIB2 PlugIn
I look forward to installing v4.2.1 with grib2 and testing, hopefully tomorrow. Sean we wish you a safe voyage!

Could you point me in the direction of that post please?
Thanks,

Re: GRIB2 PlugIn
Testing ....
1. File extensions of 'grb2' (BSH) and 'grib2' (Meteo-France) are not recognised. Used 'All Files' and got the gribs for display that way.
2. With tidal currents Grib2 from BSH there is no 'data at cursor position' for current direction/speed. (Grib1 from BSH displays the interpolated data correctly)
(Since O 4.0.0 the checkboxes for wind barbs and isobars do not select/de-select the display of those items)

Re: GRIB2 PlugIn
ftp://nomads.ncdc.noaa.gov/GFS/Grid4/201601/20160128/
This one seems to be downloading. 65mb!
gfs_4_20160128_0000_021.grb2 65mb
says it cannot be read. O does not crash. Grib2_pi just does not see any data.

Re: GRIB2 PlugIn
Index of /data/nccf/com/estofs/prod/estofs.20160226
downloaded four of these 2mb grib2 and no valid data.
got some 7mb grib2 of Atlantic Waves and Atlantic Wind and they work.
-Comment: It would be nice if we did not have to select "All" file types all the time.
Add grb2, grib2 etc.
I think I need to get zygrib on this computer with my account. That will solve the finding grib2 issue.

Re: GRIB2 PlugIn
zyGrib does not read grib2 format, qtVlm does. We have similar problems extracting a valid grib1 or grib2 file from myOcean data. Still working on that.

Re: GRIB2 PlugIn
maitai,
Thanks very much. That is great that qtVlm supports Grib2, I should start using it again, to keep the mindset!
Just found that zygrib does not support grib2 as you report, but will try myOcean as you suggest.
Grib2_pi seems to be reading a number of grib2 sources, but I found a XXXX.bin type that it does not support either, along with some others below, (which may not be good for testing as far as I know.)

Re: GRIB2 PlugIn
I have been comparing tidal current data from two sets of data using the Grib2 plugin:
1. ibi.nc
2. ucurr.grib/vcurr.grib made by CDO (Climate Data Objects) from ibi.nc
ibi.nc was downloaded from Copernicus.
ibi.nc has a start time of 2016-03-05 12:00:00 but Grib2 times start from 14:00:00.
Using ncdump I can confirm the start time of 12:00:00.
The arrows shown by Grib2 for 14:00:00 are data for 12:00:00.
Grb2 data from BSH is correctly shown by Grib2.
BSH data has an interval of 30 minutes. Copernicus data is hourly. Does this cause a problem for the plugin?
Also interesting that the "hours since" shown for the file (at top of the screen) is the start date/time (2011-03-31 00:00:00) + 1 hour.

Re: GRIB2 PlugIn
Hi Dave
I have downloaded and installed your 4.1 Windows build
I have very few grib2 files to test
- One from french "AROME" model .
https://donneespubliques.meteofrance...id_rubrique=51
Is named with ".grib2" termination . So it don't shows up in the file selector. I renamed it with ".grb" termination. Then I get "no valid data"
- One from https://meteo.gc.ca/grib/grib2_ens_naefs_f.html
Is also named with .grib2" termination.
Got "no valid data" when renamed it like above
- One from ftp://ftp.bsh.de/Stroemungsvorhersagen/
is named with ".grb2" termination so I add to rename it
Then the current data are shown but only at some zoom level
Tried to built with VS2010, but as you said it don't work
Got errors messages (and lot of warnings) (see thread grib2 branch)
Regards
Jean Pierre

Re: GRIB2 PlugIn
I have been looking for a good Grib2 downloader.
First I thought predictwind would be good. It is, but it is not Grib2 as far as I can determine, nor is Zygrib.
The one I've found so far is DeGrib NDFD Grib2Decoder
Degrib: Download
I have downloaded bin files and been able to select multiple files to make an image, but I have not been able to make it make a grib file composed of the data I want. However I think this is what it does. It will take some more messing around.
Others familiar, please post your hints.

Re: GRIB2 PlugIn
Degrib: Test Suites
It looks like there are script files that create three types of files (.shp, .shx, and .dbf) for Arcview. How do we do the same for grb2?
Here is the manual
http://www.nws.noaa.gov/mdl/NDFD_GRI...al.php#getData
Example degrib command
Quote:
- Uses degrib to format a 12 hourly summarization product using NDFD data for all times:
/degrib/bin/degrib /degrib/data -P -pnt 38.98,-77.07 -XML 12-hourly -ndfdConven 2 -geoData /degrib/data/geodata
|
Is degrib capable of producing the type of files Grib2_pi can use? What types of files can Grib2 use just grb2?
Looks to me like we need to create a command line because tkdegrib does not do it. We could use Pavel's "Launcher_pi" to setup a reasonable way to download on a regular basis for testing.
We can then change this command line as needed for testing. Just an idea at this point. Now need to figure out a reasonable command line.
