Welcome to OpenCPN.
I'm not quite sure what your problem is.
Have you read the manual?

Re: grib display on open CPN
I use Winlink to send/receive emails whilst underway via SSB ham frequencies. Winlink provides grib file in the .grb format. I cannot get OpenCPN to display these files at all, though it will display .grz files. Is there any way to get .grb files to work? If not, can this be something to look at in future releases please. I guess the same applies to SailMail users too?
Thanks
Ian

Re: grib display on open CPN
Can you overlay grib files onto openCPN charts? Is this what this discussion is about?

Re: grib display on open CPN
No I cannot overlay Grib direction arrows and isobars over C-maps. I can in Maxsea but not OpenCPN. I use Gribs as follows in OpenCPN. I click on the Grib icon and select the appropriate date/time file. All data boxes are ticked. Wind speed, direction and pressure boxes contain data and change value when the mouse pointer is moved over the chart. But, no data is displayed on the chart. Using Win7 Home Premium 64 bit, Intel core processor, 8 Gb of RAM and a Nivadia GeoForce video card. Ugrib works fine, but not open CPN. I hope this clarifies my problem.

Re: grib display on open CPN
Thanks for the reply. I wish I could see the same on my set up, but I cannot. I do get the wind speed, direction and pressure boxes filled with data, and the values do change as the mouse pointer moves across the chart, but there is no overlay on the chart itself. Looks like a layer is missing.

2.5 stable and 2.6 beta. I have tried both 'other' and 'Mariner. vector chart settings but no change.

Re: grib display on open CPN
Biggles.....
GRIB display on 2.6 Beta series is known broken.
However, there are no reports of trouble with 2.5.0
I am guessing, but I suggest to uninstall OpenCPN entirely, and re-install 2.5.0. You may have interference between 2.6 and 2.5
Thanks
Dave

Re: grib display on open CPN
Hi Dave,
your suggestion fixed the problem. I uninstalled 2.6 (leaving the preferences in place) then re-installed 2.5. Now the isobars etc display as they should. I can't remember whether the 2.5 that was installed and had the same problem was an overwrite of 2.4 or a clean install. Maybe we should always uninstall a previous version first rather than upgrade?
I have downloaded gribs from Saildocs to simulate a grib obtained via Winlink using Airmail, and happily it also displays correctly.
Many thanks to all for your suggestions and a Happy New Year.

Re: grib display on open CPN
I should have added that this problem arose on two different laptops, both running 2.5 at the time. Both may have been upgraded with 2.5 rather than clean installed, so there may indeed be a problem if an upgrade is performed rather than uninstalling the previous version first.
Regards

Re: grib display on open CPN
Hi all,
I can't display .grb grib files (from metoconsult as example): file doesn't appear in window
I can only display .bz2 (actually .grb.bz2)
renaming grb files in .bz2 doesn't help
I am with W7 & OCPN 3.02
Thanks for your help
Michel
NB: OCPN is just great
