GRadar ethernet cable question

Thanks in advance for the help and the great product! I am running OpenCPN on Windows 10 for charts and also have a Garmin 740s MFD and Garmin 18HD radar. I would like to connect the radar to OpenCPN with the GRadar plugin. I've got hundreds of feet of Cat5e cable and plugs on the boat, but have no access to the jacks that are used to expose the pins to jump pin 5.

Can I make two type B (straight through) ethernet cables, omitting the fifth wire at one end of each, splice the fifth wires together, but otherwise follow the attached diagram? From everything I've read, there's nothing special about the Garmin ethernet cables so I can replace it with one I make with the fifth wire exposed. Is this correct? I tried this before with no luck but maybe I missed something in the network settings. Thanks

Hi BayouGrande,

Did you finally succeed to plug your Garmin GMR 18hd into openCPN ?
If yes, does the settings are as "Interface Type 2: OpenCPN Master Mode, no chartplotter" ?

I'm wondering to purchase the very same material, but I need to be sure it will work with OpenCPN first, I'm little anxious before purchase...
