GPS timeout value?

Hi,

is there a possibility to set a value for something I called "GPS Timeout" or so?

Problem: The NMEA-Network I use is full of NMEA-sentences and the GPS-strings sometimes are the minority ones. So it looks like OC Need every second a gps-sentence otherwise the GPS-Status turns to no Signal and the Little boat turns from red to black.
Doesn´t try the COG/SOG Filter there is 1 second filter enabled.
Or can I use a value in the config file?
I Need something round about 5 seconds deadband I think.

Thanks

Andreas

Re: GPS timeout value?

Andreas...

try:

Code:
[Settings]
GPSDogTimeout=5
Default is already 6 seconds.

That means OCPN must get a valid position report (e.g. RMC, GLL, etc) every six seconds or else the ownship icon will go grey, and many other functions will stop working...

Re: GPS timeout value?

Is there a way to do this with other parameters? Such as depth, water temp, etc...?

Re: GPS timeout value?

TBillings...
Nohal is of course, as always, right but I think I understand your intentions. These has been discussed years ago but then the majority of the community didn't want timeout for depth etc.
My feelings are it's better to show a question mark than the last value in Dashboard if the sounder fails. So I made this for my own use. If you wish you can try my attached Dashboard. (Pls delete the .pdf extension) But beware, there are some other minor adaptions for my dated GPS-navigator, Garmin 120, and the as well dated Simrad IS15 system but I don't think these will bother you.
The timeout function is using the GPS timeout timer as the heading instruments in Dashboard are.
The attached Dashboard is based on recent OCPN Github code.

Re: GPS timeout value?

Thanks, that's my thinking too.. I'd rather see a "--" or something other than the last value if the depth sounder stops updating, whether that's from a breaker opening or the wires to my multiplexer falling out. And of course not just depth, either, but everything else like roll/pitch, etc...

I'll see if I can adapt your file next time I'm down at the boat.
