Google Earth Track and Simulation

Here is an interesting way to combine GE with OCPN,using an imported track and 'Bungee'. The dual screen displays the selected track in both OCPN and GE.
The GE screen allows running the track as a simulation or inspecting views and information along the whole lenght of the track. An important feature of using 'Bungee' is that you can also place your holiday photos along the track.

The start of existing routes are shown in OCPN as a mark with annotation 'EXTRA INFO'. Right clicking the mark displays 'Extra information'.
Selecting 'Extra information' brings up an OCPN box displaying the geo loc of the start of the track as well as a Link menu with two options:GE track and Edit/simulation.

GE track= For panning of the entire track with inserted photos plus other normal GE photos and info as set in your GE setup. Saved as .KMZ

Edit/simulator= Browse the track,waypoints and photos or Start a simulation run of the entire lenght of the track, or initiate 'Bungee' for editing. From a .GPX file.

After loading GE,hold down CTRL while right clicking the minimized OCPN and select the screen view side by side. See attched..

Any number of these special 'Extra info' markers can be placed in your OCPN charts where you have earlier imported/saved tracks.

See my thread 'Testing out Bungee' #7 for download. (Navigation)
'That extra information' is actually an OCPN feature you can allocate to any mark. Here is a sample.. You can of course add several links,one below the other.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<gpx version="1.1" creator="OpenCPN" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns="http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/1" xmlns:gpxx="http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/GpxExtensions/v3" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/1 http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/1/gpx.xsd" xmlnspencpn="http://www.opencpn.org">

<text>Sailing trip</text>
</link>
<name>Bungee</name>
<sym>triangle</sym>
<type>WPT</type>
<extensions>

</extensions>
</wpt>
</gpx>

Re: Google Earth Track and Simulation

thanks guys...Tried Bungee.It's great,for GE,but I'm still really looking for a similar and simple way to put a link in OpenCPN's mark...something easier than editing a template.I've tried a few that purport to add links in a gpx but O hasn't really liked em much...

Re: Google Earth Track and Simulation

The 'Additional information' facility in the OCPN marks is easy enough to use,just needs someone with programing skills to construct a setup box to enter the links.
The use of Bungee in this connection is mainly for planning and replay purposes.
