Google Earth
Hi;
Until recently, my google earth version (7.0) worked well with opencpn google earth plugin. But now that version of google earth doesn't work and it is not supported by google earth folks. Question; is the google earth plugin for opencpn working now? if so, what's the workaround to use the plugin with opencpn?

Re: Google Earth
Google has turned off all old versions of Google earth. Only the latest version of Google Earth Pro works and it has no API so the the OpenCPN plugin for google earth will not work.

Re: Google Earth
Sat2Chart can create kap and mbtile charts from Google Earth Pro and it can overlay OpenCPN and SasPlanet to create a composite chart. Here is the link to to Sat2Chart:

Re: Google Earth
Thanks Paul, I will try it out. I went through one of your tutorials and it seems promising.

Re: Google Earth
Got it, thanks. I just downloaded google earth pro latest version. Do I need to change any thing on google options? I am asking because I am getting an error message:
Error: Not enough vertical grid lines, try zooming out
Error: Unable to create a chart of Google earth
Try increasing the typing delay in the Google earth Options
Error: Calibration Failed!
Error: R_Proc_Chart_Lists failed!

Re: Google Earth
I cannot create mbtiles or kap files with google earth pro (7.3.3.7786 (64-bit)).
Could you see my video capture and find the problem?
I cannot attach video here, so I uploaded on my notion page. Please help me.

Re: Google Earth
JeongYun,
First you are at an old version of Sat2Chart. Please upgrade to V15.0.2.0.
http://gdayii.ca/Downloads/Sat2Chart.V15.0.2.0.exe
You may have to Copy and Paste the link into your browser.
Second, have you watched the Tutorial " Creating a chart from Google Earth"?
If not please watch it.
Third, using Google Earth to create charts is very difficult since they shutdown their API and stopped all old versions. Most users of Sat2Chart are now using SasPlanet. Suggest you install and use it. See the Sat2Chart Help/SasPlanet on how to install.
Fourth you probably should have posted this on the Navigation forum.
Fifth I suggest you join the Facebook group. Open the Options and press the Facebook button.
And Sixth if you insist on using Google Earth and it doesn't work after installing V15.0.2.0 then send email me the and attached the Sat2Chart.log

Re: Google Earth
I don't have any Windows computer available to me for Sat2Chart, but I've succeeded in generating MBTiles for use with OpenCPN using MapProxy ( https://mapproxy.org/) which is bundled as a plugin in AvNav ( Wellenvogel-AvNav)
There was a bit of trial and error involved in getting the config right, but this is what worked:
Code:
layers:
google_sat:
title: Satellite (Google Maps)
sources: [c_google_sat]
caches:
c_google_sat:
grids: [GLOBAL_MERCATOR]
#potentially add more sources
sources: [s_google_sat]
meta_size: [1,1]
cache:
type: mbtiles
filename: google_sat.mbtiles
sources:
#add your sources here
s_google_sat:
type: tile
url: https://mt2.google.com/vt/lyrs=s&x=%(x)s&y=%(y)s&z=%(z)s
grid: GLOBAL_WEBMERCATOR
transparent: true
on_error:
404:
response: transparent
cache: False
You can either "seed" an area, or just navigate around the map to fill up the MBTiles cache, and then copy it to a spot OpenCPN looks at.
