Good start point to make OpenCPN plugin

Dear all


I'm manufacturer a longline radio buoy and some customer ask to connect our receiver/decoder software to OpenCPN to show the buoys on map.


Now we use a trick; we generate a AIS sentence locally (on PC) and using a pair comport simulator we send AIS sentence to OpenCPN; the longline radio buoy are show as AtoN target.


But this solution is not the best, becuase we cannot use specifiec icon and we cannot show on target somes other infos sended from our radio buoy.


My idea is to make a plugin for OpenCPN and use DDE for data exchange (only for Windows)


Anyone can suggest a example of OpenCPN plug in , if exist as DDE ?

I don't suggest you do anything windows specific, it would limit you.

There are several plugins available that use custom waypoints, check the sources.

AIS VD/ABM/BBM ... decode ... create custom waypoint with unique ID. On receipt of new sentence/s delete and build new waypoint.

VFKaps_pi code creates a waypoint from a GPX file for an anchorage position. This includes building a hyperlink to a website resource.

ShipDriver_pi has limited AIS sentence encoding (port from @transmitterdan Python code).

i agree with Mike

I would look at the AIS code it will be a lot easier than going with DDE. More transparent.

It is very well written, and has comments ! Tactics_pi wins at the moment for comments
