Garmin AIS to OpenCPN

I have a Garmin 600 AIS

Can i connect it to a pc (using windovs) and se the posisions in OpenCPN
when i connect it to the wiering designed for Garmin NMEA 0183 compatible chartplotter
using the Digital Yacht NMEA 0183 To USB Adapter

In short yes you can.

You will have to connect the Gray wire (TX+) from the 0183 output cable on the AIS 600 to the RX wire (YELLOW) on the USB adaptor. And connect the Pink (TX -) wire on the 0183 cable from the AIS 600 to the ground wire (BLACK) on the USB adaptor. YOU MUST INSULATE the Green (Speed), Yellow (Switch), Red (12V +) and Black (12V -) wires on the 0183 cable from the AIS 600 before connecting and powering up anything!.

YOU MUST ALSO INSULATE UNUSED WIRES ON THE USB adaptor (RED, BROWN , ORANGE, GREEN).

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Then set the OpenCPN USB port to the correct Virtual Com port on windows. Ensure the speed is set at 38400 and enable all sentences in the input selector.
