Re: GALAXY 10.1 TABLET & NAVIGATION

A friend has 4G with unlimited data. She found FoxFi a wifi hub for bluetooth and wifi. We set it up and it works like a charm for Windows 7 & 8 . No tether needed for the laptop, use the phone for the data connection. If you don't have unlimited data be careful about use.

Do´nt remember if I told you,but the great TeamViewer is able to connect your Tablet to your laptop stored safely below using just their LAN setup without the need of internet connection.

You can also use TeamViewer to connect your smartphone or smaller tablet to your laptop or PC for a FULL page view and the use of keyboard and mouse.

thank you Tore, you did, I downloaded, installed, but did not have any time yet to look further into.

my yanmar engines have about 500h, both ORIGINAL exhaust manifolds had hairline cracks, I thought first, maybe the antisyphon valve above, but no, the stainless welding. thick salt crust from there all way down covering flywheel housing, starter, all electric connections there including main engine electronic and 3 relais, so I am busy cleaning up the mess and already welded the manifolds, ordered new ones too, but delivery will take a month here in the Philippines.

Re: GALAXY 10.1 TABLET & NAVIGATION

blubaju..

FINALLY!! Purchased a new Galaxy 10.1v Tab from a nearby shopping centre while I await the refund for the other one I bought from an unknown internet dealer.

Managed to upgrade the operating system to ICS 4.0.4 without any problems using the ´Odin´facility and the replacement OS file around 550 MB.

Today I also found a neat Galaxy Tab USB device in a local shop which gives me access to my USB pendrives and SD card. I have already copied over all my videos,my favourite music and a start selection of photos, all which would have taken up a lot of space on my Tab,which I can now reserve for apps etc.

Like so many other Galaxy 10.1v Tab users,I am also having some problems getting the tab to connect to my local network provided by a recent model dlink router. I have also tried outside in shopping centres with Wi-Fi access but I am unable to connect. There is a lot written about this connection problem on the Internet. I am surprised Samsung has not issued any user statement about this to help.

Taking it to a local PC technician,he had it going within a few minutes, but,as soon as I switched it off and tried at home,I was not able to connect. Anyway, it is a relief that I have at least SEEN it working and it is clearly a matter of some configuration which is necessary for the Galaxy 10.1v Tablet. I have a laptop as well as my Galaxy SII which both connected without any other need but to have Wi-Fi switched on. Even my wife´s Nokia smartphone connects right away.

As soon as I have wi-fi connection,I shall install PocketCloud and TeamViewer in order to have full control with OpenCPN running on my PC and laptop, and look forward to that.

Later,I will experiment with pairing up the tab and my smartphone with 3G so I can also have access to the phone network when required.

Re: GALAXY 10.1 TABLET & NAVIGATION

NOW HEAR THIS!! IMPORTANT.

I have spent about 1 week trying to connect my Samsung Galaxy 10.1 Tablet to my network and internet. I have had a specialist visiting for 3 hours, phoned the main Samsung user help in Sao Paulo,no one could find out.

Then I was thinking, the Tab managed to connect at the computer assist shop on THEIR network, but I did not see what they did to do so. I tried the available wi-fi in a shopping centre,no dice! What is the difference between MY network and theirs? THEY alle have password protected networks,I do´nt. How about creating one, just for the hell of it?

You guessed it, THAT WAS IT!!

The Galaxy 10.1v Tab NEEDS to use a password protected network!

Re: GALAXY 10.1 TABLET & NAVIGATION

I was reading terrible stories on the internet about Galaxy 10.1v and that it could NOT be upgraded to ICS,and if you did,you would loose many features.

Samsung´s official upgrade utility KIES,when first requested to upgrade my Tab to ICS firstly displayed my present operating system name/code and then told me I already have the latest version, not mentioning anything about ICS which for some time has been approved by Samsung for upgrade of the Galaxy 10.1v

I was then left with the choice of using ODIN and a copy of the latest ICS OS to upgrade my Tab.

Rest assured!! All went well and I have ALL the features, even the write facility of Galaxy Write, the latest Samsung version. You can use your finger to draw/write in any line thickness and color in the ´Pen Memo´ app as well as on every screen capture you make. NEAT!

I invested in a cheap USB adapter plugin which allows me to use ALL my pendrives for storage. It also has a card slot which I have not so far managed to function. Perhaps it is ONLY for photos?

Re: GALAXY 10.1 TABLET & NAVIGATION

According to the press yesterday, the Samsung Galaxy 10.1 Tab has been banned from sale in the US by the United States Suppreme Court in support of a suite filed by Apple.

If Apple is THAT worried about the Galaxy 10.1 Tab,I am VERY pleased I bought it. Could´nt have had a better recommendation!!

I purchased a Chineese-made USB pendrive adapter the other day which is no longer functioning after changing it twice. I have now put in a mail order from the US for a genuine Samsung adapter. At $ 27.- plus a hefty 100% import duty in Brazil,it comes out at just about the same.

The combination of OruxMaps nav. prog. and the qtVlm route optimizing prog. is truly impressive, making use of existing wind and tidal stream gribs as can be seen from the attached map/track. Tidal stream gribs were only available approaching Skagen, the rest of the track shows only wind gribs.

Re: GALAXY 10.1 TABLET & NAVIGATION

T,
I can't find your reference, and when I look I see a court battle that was last summer. Plenty of product to purchase here that I can see.

I also found that ICS is almost a year late but sounds like it is out in the US (link is a popular forum, this thread is about folks who did the ICS upgrade and are having problems rooting):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1985304

Yep, Apple did sue, hasn't made it to the US Supreme Court, that I can see by checking the docket or decisions. But the lower courts ruled both ways, as far as I can see. Apple claim is that they have a patent on any device with rounded corners?? Apple is hanging their hat on some broad statements attached to a sketch that was in a designer's note book which was submitted as evidence; in my very limited experience when applying for a patent the designer's notebooks are not submitted only the patent documents.

This is a very abstract idea and if it stands then just about every PC and tablet out there will infringe.

Have a look: U.S. Sales Ban on Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 to Remain in Effect | PCWorld

I have just upgraded my Galaxy 10.1v to ICS using ODIN without any problems, everything is working,EXCEPT, my Java based Windowns based progs are no longer visible. Samsung has dropped Java support.

Re: GALAXY 10.1 TABLET & NAVIGATION

Tore, here is a link to a special web page setup for this issue, note it is a US district court and there are more court layers to go (if necessary):

Apple Inc. v. Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. et al. | United States District Court, Northern District of California

I looked at the most recent posting and timelines. It looks to me Dec. 6 is the next date for that court, but I have very little experience on how and what these folks do, so take my date with a grain of salt.

I recommend you look at the latest posting in "case documents", that date was 9/17/2012. Take a look at it, there is a lot of good stuff there. Let me know what you think about it.

Re: GALAXY 10.1 TABLET & NAVIGATION

Many of you guys probably already know that you can display AIS targets on OpenCPN simply by downloading a free .kml file from Marinetraffic.

However,it was a surprise to me when I activated the GE plug this morning.

See attached screenshots from my laptop as well as my Galaxy tablet using TeamViewer.

The AIS positions are somewhat delayed but if you subscribe to Marinetraffic they will be in ´real-time´.

Re: GALAXY 10.1 TABLET & NAVIGATION

Tore:

Specific to marinetraffic.com is there a way to pipe this data into the Linux version of OCPN. Looking at the .kml file it does provide you with a URL, a coordinate region and a refresh rate. However using devel beta I can enter a URL address, but the data provided does not play well as its specific to GE. I can get it to work in GE fine....but would like to get this data into OPCN..any clues would be greatly appreciated. The GE plugin does not work on Linux.....but thats not an issue.

Best and thanks
