free charts for opencpn?

(here my outing as a digital dinosaur):
downloaded opencp yesterday (excitement!!!) & managed to find free charts: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/...rom_OpenSeaMap -
nailbiting excitement
BUT: try as I might (well, an idiot trying) - no depths. the charts tease me with a big watermark "METRES" - but nada!
so
1. can I get those charts to show depths?
2. are there free downloadable charts for opencpn ?

For example most US charts by NOAA are free.
Goto the OpenCPN site and look for charts on it. You'll find lots of resources there.

Have a look into the manual - "chart sources". A lot of information.

In Europe you get free charts for the (commercially used) Inland Waterways (Binnenwasserstrassen) and a good part of them you access via the integrated Chartdownloader.

OpenSeaMap is using coastlines from the OpenStreetMap project, lighthouses and markers from public data bases and lack in general soundings.
So not really helpful for navigation.

For a good part of the European waters you get non free, but quite inexpensive and up-to-date vector charts from the oeSENC project at o-charts.org.
