Seconded! A boat position 1/3 up from the bottom of the screen would get my vote

Open ship COG arrow vanishes when the boat is out of screen, even when I install a long line of 15 minutes or so.

Would be fine to keep this line visible , also when the boat is out of screen.
So I can see the details of the harbour entry for example and see if my boat is on the right course to the detail.
see image....

PS: I like the idea of a boat position 1/3 up from the bottom or side of the screen!!!

Greetings from Denmark !
Tomorrow I will sail to Bornholm, later to Stockholm, Riga ....

Rik-lu.....

Hello. The ownship COG predictor should be visible if the ship is off-screen, but the predicted point is on-screen. This works for me. Does it never work for you? Anybody else have this same difficulty?

Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,

I tried again today, it works as you write when the predicted point is on-screen.

But my predicted point was out of screen behind the part of the map , that I was watching, and the boat on the other side out of screen, in this moment the line dissapears.
would be fine to see this line at any time.
I wanted to focus on an habour entrance in largest scale and in this moment there is no time to think about shortening the line in the toolbox.

the line should just be always visible even when both the boat and the predicted point are out of screen.

Great idea, great programm , your opencpn !

Rik-Lu:

Yep, I found the same thing.

Fixed in Beta 604. Thanks for the input.

Hi Dave

It is very easily to stop accidentally a track during hard navigation . Just clicking on the wrong place when dragging ....
Could it be possible to have a confirmation to stop track when running ?
Thanks
Jean Pierre

....or having the track always going would be perfect for me. I would switch the track on in the toolbox once and forget about it. With an autosave function......, so i could see my whole track after summer.

The only thing OCPN has to envy to Coastal Explorer (IMHO) is that wonderful waypoint ring that allows you to ADD, INSERT, MOVE, SET RADIUS of any individual route waypoint with a single simple mouse action.
I suggest you to give it a try and then code something similar (I don't think it's copyrighted!), you're up to the task for sure.

Does radius set a tolerance margin for marking the waypoint as "passed" automatically? It would certainly be good to have some sort of automatic mechanism for switching along the chain of waypoints as the route goes by.

Whats the difference between add and insert? Could you provide a screenshot?

Yes the radius set the tolerance margin for marking the waypoint as "passed" automatically and can be resized by picking the circle and dragging the mouse.
When you select a waypoint that is part of a route it shows two opposite "horns" (similar to OCPN COG prediction arrows) that can be picked to add a new WP after or before the current one (even if the current one is the first or last of the route).
It's harder to explain than to do!

However you can download a free Coastal Explorer Viewer from here:
http://rosepointnav.com/CoastalExplo...ss/default.htm
Registering your copy of Coastal Explorer Viewer Edition will enable a five-day free trial of Coastal Explorer Express Edition that you can use to try the aforementioned features.

when I have the cm93 detail map centered there is only gray around,

when I take it out of center , I see the normal vector view without the detail map.

is it possible to show vector map and detail map together ? so that the detail map fits in the normal vector map.

sounds to me as if you are looking for the quilting function (Toolbox -> Settings -> Enable Chart Quilting).
Then it looks like this ...

Thumbs up

wow, I didn't expect the solution being so simple . I thougt the quilting function only to be important when using other charts. In fact I never understood the quilting mode before.

Danke Günther !!!
