Skip...

You have the best charts that NOAA publishes for this region. See the attached shots.

Note that the vector chart contains just about the same information as the raster chart. No coincidence. The ENCs published today were largely prepared by NOAA by tracing existing raster charts. Note also that the scale (1:40000) is the same in both cases. We have found that NOAA ENC's are about as detailed as the root raster charts in places where big ships don't travel, and that the ENCs are better in high traffic, commercially important areas.

If you have a more detailed chart on your standalone plotter, it would be neat to compare it with NOAA's best.

Re: ENCs refuse to update = "no internet" (not true)

Ah. Thanks. Our plotter is off to yet another dead-button fix (same as last time; its days are likely numbered), so I can't fire it up for you to take a pic. It's a Navionics-driven C120Classic from Ray. I don't trust it in the Bahamas, as I have seen two, and know of others second-hand, which have been lost due to reliance on their version of the Bahamas, and, because of the Explorers, know that if we'd have followed a route from George Town to Long Island, we'd have gone aground (albeit on sand)...

However, the laptop version seems to be otherwise well; I next want to import my ancient Explorer Charts (from the Cap'n), and my local cruising area will be complete so that I can erase all from my Nav computer, download fresh OCPN and move all the charts over on a stick, in one place.

It looks extremely unlikely that I'll get to Haiti or points east, but I have chartbooks and disks for the entire EC. Do you know if the charts will read?

Thanks.
