Efficient Way to See Chart Notes

Hello, can anyone describe an efficient way to find/see a chart's notes in ocpn? How do you do it? Thanks in advance.

Zoom out, then zoom in on the note.

Thank you. That makes a lot of sense, but when I zoom out oftentimes a different chart level is presented or the note is cut off by an adjacent chart. I was hoping there was another way. Maybe the settings I'm using aren't the best; I'll play with those. it just might be that I need to be more patient. Perhaps one day NOAA's ENCs will be more interactive.

You may try to temporarily switch "Charts Quilting" off and lock to one chart file.
Bottom right canvas menu or shortcut "Q".

I have version 2.something running in a Vista machine. There is a bar at the bottom to choose the chart.

Maybe that’s gone away in the last 3 versions. They’re in version 5 now right?

Re: Efficient Way to See Chart Notes

The chart bars are still present. There you can select desired chart file both in quilted and not quilted mode. How to switch off quilting by a menu in v 2.. I don't remember. But "Q" may work as well.
Present OCPN version is 5.6.2

Are you looking at ENCs or RNCs? I can see this being an issue with the raster charts, but ENCs don't display the notes on the chart; you have to query them and the details appear in a separate pop-up.

Well, that’s an interesting question. Historically I downloaded RNCs, but have since moved to ENCs, or so I thought. Your description certainly points to RNCs. I feel a bit foolish now, but appreciative of the guidance.

Re: Efficient Way to See Chart Notes

This reminds me, I now have a second thing to add to my (long in-progress) guide to ENCs: a bit on chart notes, as well as a bit on the display category settings.

There is one downside to the ENCs here; the chart notes aren't always as comprehensive or helpful as with the old charts. The most critical omission is the relation of MHW to chart datum, as without that things like bridge heights become much less useful. The upcoming S-100 data standard should improve on this, as it includes water level information, but I have no idea when it will be rolled out.
