Editing colors and symbols when importing GPX

I'm moving all my historical waypoints and tracks from a MapTech program over to OpenCPN. I'd like to able to specify the color of the tracks and colors and symbols of the waypoints before I import them to OpenCPN. I am editing the old data in some GPS software I have access to. I can't figure out what color/symbology the OpenCPN will interpret from the final GPX file.

See screen shot here:

I had discovered the behind the scenes coding that the MapTech program would recognize. I cannot figure out OpenCPN, so far...

There is no secret or magic here, for route and track colors OpenCPN follows https://www8.garmin.com/xmlschemas/G...tensionsv3.xsd (= the <rte> has <extensions><gpxx : RouteExtension><gpxx : DisplayColor>)

The waypoint symbols are the normal <sym> subelement of the <wpt> element as defined by the GPX standard (https://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/1/) and OpenCPN by default supports the symbols from https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN/t.../svg/markicons (In the GPX file use the filename without ".svg" as the value of <sym>) plus any user defined symbols you have.

For a "template" simply export something from OpenCPN as GPX and have a look at it in a text editor.

Rick, how many times have you seen this question being asked? The FAQ is for FREQUENTLY asked questions, making it contain hundreds of random pieces of information with no actual audience is counterproductive. But we have been there already, several times...

Yes, I thought about that, however this is in FAQ associated with "Routes & Marks" Page which has 3 FAQ at the bottom, and there have been questions about this from time to time. + I thought your answer was excellent.

If you would like me to delete it, just give the word.
