Editing boat xml

I tried to edit boat.xml with Polar_pi and weather_routing_pi and I was unable to get either of these to work. I want to tweak my polar file (boat.xml) and Polar_pi crashes when I tried to load it and when I tried to edit it in weather_routing_pi I was unable to display a spreadsheet style format required to alter the values for the polar.

How do other folks edit boat.xml? I also tried to load it into openoffice without success.

Thank, Jim

Re: Editing boat xml

boat.xml does not contain any polar data. Instead it contains the filenames of one or more polar files (csv format) or parameters to automatically compute the polar data.

Try loading it with a text editor, then opening the csv file it references also with a text editor or possibly the polar plugin.

Re: Editing boat xml

Thank you; I opened boat.xlm with notepad but it does not reference any csv or pol files; so it must compute the polar file from the boat parameters.

Can I add a line in the boat.xml file to reference one of pol files supplied in the weather_routing_pi directory? I can then edit this.

Re: Editing boat xml

yes. Or you can open a polar file from the weather routing plugin and it should automatically save the boat.xml file to reference it.

Re: Editing boat xml

Hello

I have just installed OpenCPN and plugins on my new Linux Mint 17.1.
Everything works except I can't find any Boat.xml in WeatherRouting plugin.
Where can I download boat.xml ? or a description to create it ?

Jean

Re: Editing boat xml

Jean it should have been installed under the plugin's data directory. Perhaps do a search?

Re: Editing boat xml

Jean,

On the Weather Routing Configuration page in the Boat section click on Edit.
This will open the Boat window.
Here you can enter your boat info and define a Polar file if you have one.
Do a Save and Close and the Boat.xml should be generated.
