When I click on the website button in the installer I get the dreaded 404.

Now in the master catalog. Update and you will find it in the list for installing.

I haven't used the EarthExplorer plugin during real navigation yet. Trying the simulation, GE shows this big panamax container ship. Does this ship stays the same during real navigation or is there a way to change the ship icon to the one similar on OpenCpn?

MazatlanMexico ... Sorry, brick wall. The container ship is a 3D model built into the plugin. To use another model you would need to find a suitable model, the recompile the plugin. The OpenCPN icon is only involved because it can be given 2D dimensions to match those of the model.

EarthExplorer is not listed after updating the master catalog on the latest OpenCpn version 5.8. Is there any workarounds?

The update needs some work for O5.8. Should be ready in a couple of weeks.
