Downloading Charts
I have Open CPN installed and am having difficulty downloading NOAA ENC charts. I go to the NOAA site, download the Zip file, decompress, and it doesn't appear to have anything Open CPN or any thing else can read.
What am I missing?

Re: Downloading Charts
It's might be simpler to use the chart downloader function (Settings -> Charts -> Chart Downloader).
For the cases where you've manually downloaded some, the "Chart Files" tab under Settings-> Charts will let you add additional directories. I suggest using the built-in downloader so you can get an idea of how it stores the ENCs and then use a similar path. E.g. for California one path I have is "...charts/ENC/US_CA" which contains files like catalog.031 and CA_ENCProdCat.xml, and then a number of subfolders with the other chart data.

Re: Downloading Charts
Are you using the built-in chart downloader? Or are you downloading a zip file direct from NOAA (sounds like that)?
The downloader is easier (although there are times I don't like the chart selection). Just use the downloader and it will put the charts where they need to be.
If you are getting them directly, unzip the chart files in some directory that makes sense to you. Then go into OpenCPN, Options, Chart Files tab. On the Chart Files tab tell OpenCPN what directory contains the files you downloaded (and unzipped).

Re: Downloading Charts
Gotta be an easier way. I've got the PC version and and downloaded to a tablet. Neither have a "Chart Downloader" tab. I've tied downloading the Zip file from Noaa. Once decompressed, there are several text files but no data file that I or the application can see.
Now I've downloaded Navionics, again the PC version & the Android app. I have entered the boat data I plot a route and all it gives me is straight lines. No course to steer, no estimated speed.

Re: Downloading Charts
What is your OCPN version? From where did you download it?
The actual one is 5.2.4

Re: Downloading Charts
That's a > 5 year old forked version. Without updates since then.
Get the official one ("Dave Register") and support OCPN.

Re: Downloading Charts
Got the current one, I've got charts loaded, but isn't displaying all the charts I've downloaded.
Still plying with it, I'll get back when I've got more questions.
Thanks
Navionics doesn't seem real useful, think I'll uninstall it

Re: Downloading Charts
I have OpenCPN 5.2.4 on a Mac. Chart downloader seems to work, but when I get to the actual Download Charts screen, I see the checkboxes, but no actual text.
It does work, but I can't read what charts I'm selecting for download. Has anyone else seen this bug, or been able to fix it?

I just installed 5.2.4 on my MacBook Pro.
Your Options screen looks very dark.
Try changing the Color Scheme in the View tab...

Re: Downloading Charts
Thanks for that - now I know how to change to night vision view. Unfortunately, it had no effect on the missing text in the Chart Download window.
I am using Dark Mode on my Mac, which might explain why it looks like that. However, I even switched back to normal/light mode, and it didn't effect the missing text.

Odd. I can confirm that I get the same issue when I switch to dark mode on my Mac, but switching back to light mode restores the text. I also get the same behavior if I enable the "Use dark window decorations" option in OpenCPN's User Interface tab.
However, it does go back to normal for me in light mode. I assume the rest of the OpenCPN UI went back to black text on light gray background when you went to light mode?

Re: Downloading Charts
Requiem, that did the trick - I have to switch to Light Mode on my Mac, then restart OpenCPN and check "Use dark window decorations", then restart OpenCPN again. Then I can see the text in the download window.
However, none of these combinations work in Dark Mode, so it appears OpenCPN has a bug there. It's a pity, because I don't want to change my normal way of using my Mac just so I can use OpenCPN. Worth flagging for anyone else who might prefer Dark Mode.
