Download fails for some charts

Hi,

I intend to travel on European inland waterways. Hence I opened "ChartCatalogs" in the downloader and tried to download:

1. "France Inland ENC Charts"
2. "Netherlands Inland ENC Charts"
3. "DE IENC Charts" (Germany inland)
4. "Austria Inland ENC Charts"
5. "Belgium Inland ENC Charts"
6. "France Rhone Inland ENC Charts"

Maps for Germany inland (there is 37) worked fine. The France Rhone Inland ENC Charts (there is 33 of them) all came down nicely on the first attempt. For Netherlands 3 of 5 maps downloaded fine at first attempt (IENC Haven Geertruidenberg and IENC Haven Waspik). The other maps in Netherlands Inland ENC Chart failed download no matter what I do. France Inland ENC Charts and Belgium Inland ENC Charts fails no matter what I do (and these two would be the most important to me).

The error message when the download fails is:
"X out of Y charts failed to download. Check the list, verify there is a working internet connection and repeat the operation if needed."

I use Windows 10 on a fast computer and a fast internet connection. The maps failing are always the same and the ones working always work over and over again. hence, I suspect the "Chart downloader" goes to a webserver(site for download and I suspect for some maps the URL is expired or incorrect.

I would appreciate if anyone have any suggestion of how to get this error corrected? reading the manual does not help because I do exactly what it says (and it works like a charm at first attempt for some maps).

It looks like the Netherlands updates some of their chart links weekly, the current link in the OpenCPN catalog points to week 18, but the website is at week 19 so the link in the catalog is broken. However, the two that work are static links that are several years old.

Here is a link where you can download the latest directly from the website (there are also links there to all the other countries Inland ECDIS sites) :

The French charts come from http://vnf.fr and I can't currently get that site to load, so don't know if there's a problem with the site or on my end.

The link being used for the Belgian charts is http://ris.vlaanderen.be/IENC/005_Vlaanderen.zip and my language skills are insufficient to figure out what is wrong.

Sorry I can't be more help, but it does appear that the links in the catalog are not all working properly.

The site vnf.fr has been hacked and therefore is offline since 27. April. It was said they will not online before more 3 to 4 weeks.

Well, if that's the case and you really need the French charts they seem to be available on the Wayback Machine. I spot checked two of them and they downloaded just fine. All appear to be 5-10 years old and that matches the OpenCPN catalog dates. The links from the catalog are below, drop the ones you need into the Wayback and you should be able to get the files (as I said, it worked for two I tried).

Tank you "Dsanduril". Once I download the zip how do I get it into OpenCPN?

Unzip to a folder of your choice. (e.g. C:\documents\charts\France_inland\)
When done in OpenCPN go to Options->Charts->Chart files and "Add directory" Point to the charts folder and accept. Then "Apply" or "OK"

Thanks for the help so far. OpenCPN failed to download Belgium inland ENC Charts but that one was on the wayback machine. Most maps for France inland could be downloaded through the waybackmachine but some of them were not stored in the waybackmachine so I lack them. Also the Netherlands inland waterways was not at the waybackmachine and OpenCPN failed to download that. Any other suggestions...?

I tested some BE iENC and it failed. Probably an old link somewhere. Let's see if someone with detailed knowledge could update the Chart Downloader link source?
The tested charts from the Netherlands worked fine for me though.

I'm just wondering, are you people really able to access www.vnf.fr? I haven't seen that site up for what seems to be years now, no matter from where I try to connect to it, which is the reason why the French chart catalog is not being updated...
