DNC maps for us on OpenCPN

So NOAA has RNC maps for download that OpenCPN can use. NOAA maps only cover US waters.

NGA has free downloads of DNC maps that cover the rest of the world.

Best I can figure OpenCPN does not work with DNC maps. Am I wrong about this?

I found a site that talks about a method of converting DNC's into RNC's: GpsPasSion Forums - Nautical NOAA ENC & NGA DNC Charts for Free. Has anyone been doing this and making the charts available for download? If so what is the URL?

Alternatively, if I started doing the conversions on an ad hoc basis, is there someplace I could leave the results for download by anybody? I'm looking for ideas to help OpenCPN be useful outside US waters but am not interested in or have the resourcesto host.

if you want to convert NGA charts for your private use you might go ahead and see what you can use.

We had here a project:

that had to be aborted due to pressures from NGA. Start from the end of the thread to understand the reasons and from the beginning if you want ideas how to use NGA charts in OpenCpn.
