Display problem

I've used OpenCPN for some time and truly enjoy the program. I was reviewing some routes I created when I got a message indicating the program stopped running then the screen colors changed to what I can best describe as a negative view. For example, the ocean is now black with shades of gray for shallow areas near shore, land is dark brown. Printed words are now grey in color and very difficult to read. All the features are there but the program is unusable because it's too difficult to view the screen.

I was using version 4.8.4 so upgraded to 4.8.8. The download was successful but the screen colors did not return to normal. I tried closing the program, then restarting it. I also did a complete computer shutdown, both actions to no avail. All other programs on my computer run perfectly with correct colors, brightness and contrast. Any thoughts as to why this happened and how to fix it?

Re: Display problem

This is a Windows system?

- Try to enable/disable OpenGL and see if this makes a difference.

- Check if there is an actual driver for your Graphic card or chip set.

- Consider the latest version of OpenCPN, 5.0 (you can instal in parallel)

First I guessed you should read the manual. But searching the official manual myself I cannot find this point. Like the whole program it is not user friendly.
However try to find the gadget of the toolbar which is responsible for day and night views. Tick it several times.

Night Navigation: Not that difficult to find in the manual:

Re: Display problem

bcn, CarCode - Thanks so much for your responses. You were both correct. Somehow the program got into night mode. One toggle of the day/night icon in Settings fixed it! Can't thank you enough.
