Dashboard Plugin

I'm trying to create two different dashboards. Which will display the same data (course and SOG) but different fonts. The reason for this is I want one of the dashboards to have the largest possible font so I can see it from the aft helm. When sitting at the forward helm, by the computer, I'll use the dashboard with the small font. I have created two dashboards, but everytime I change the font of the second one to 72 pt. type, it also changes the other one, which I want to be 26 pt. type. What am I doing wrong?

Re: Dashboard plugin

Slackwater...you can run two OPCNs at once.
Get into OpenCPN 3.0 as a portable version for best results or your settings won't be saved on shutdown.

Just minimise the Aft one when you are using the forward one...but use the new Version 3.0...2.5 has minimising issues if it's shutdown when minimised.

If you do follow my advice, follow this too:You can avoid the ".bat" stuff by making a shortcut to the opencpn.exe in the portable folder and simply typing a space then -p in it's Properties dialogue (it's the so called "Target" field where you add this "-p". It will look like this -it's xp but you should have similar facility:

Dashboard instrument "from ownship"

The only thing I am missing in opencpn is the option to start an "from ownship" instrument in the dashboard. (Angle between ship and cursor).
There was an expanded version of dashboard_pi.dll available, who had this feature incorporated. I used it in opencpn 2.5.0. But unfortunately it das not work with the latest version 3.0.0 of opencpn.

Does anybody know if there is an opportunity to get this feature also for the latest version?

Re: Dashboard plugin

Hi yantho,

its right, that "from ownship" is available in the status bar. But the font size in this bar is very small and I like to skip the status bar compltely, because the information of this bar is also available in the the dashboard (exept "from ownship").

Re: Dashboard plugin

Peter...
Do you remember where you got the moded dashboard for 2.5? This is easy to implement, but a waste of time to do if it was already done, so I would prefer to just reuse the code already written by someone if possible...

Re: Dashboard plugin

Hello Pavel,

I found the modified dashboard_pi.dll offered in one of the opencpn threads. Unfortunately I cant find it again. Would it help you, if I send you this modified dashboard_pi.dll version, which works very well in my 2.5 installation?

Re: Dashboard plugin

Peter...
Not really - I would need the source code for the modification not to have to program it again. What it should do is pretty obvious.

Thanks

Re: Dashboard plugin

Hi Pavel , Peter

I was the guy that proposed this modified DLL
You can find the code source in Fly spray FS#632
But I didn't adapt the code to 3.0
Off course I can try to do it (need a few time)

Re: Dashboard plugin

Here is the patch adapted to 3.0 version
The preceding patch included the capacity to display times in UTC or Local , but I did'nt
keep it in this one So this new one only includes the "from ownship" function
To use it (in windows only) , just replace the "dasboard_pi.dll" by the one attached
To compile you have to :
1) copy these 4 files : include/cutil.h ,include/georef.h , src/cutil.c and src/georef.c
to plugins/dashboard_pi/src/
2) apply the 4 patches attached
4) rebuilt the project (cmake)
5) compile as usual and put the new .dll file in the right folder
Let me know if it works correctly mainly if somebody built it in an another OS (Linux...)

Re: Dashboard Plugin

Hi Pavel,

it would be great, if the patch with the additional "ownship" function could be integrated part of the official dashboard version.

Thanks to both of you!
