Creating Track / Route from Waypoints in OpenCPN
I have a .gpx file with waypoints.
How do i create a Track or Route from a selection of these waypoints in OCPN?
I've imported the .GPX file of waypoints ok and they show as separate circles in my map. The Route Manager also shows an 'Unknown route' but no route or track line appears on my map.
There should be a way to select the desired waypoints, then click a tab to produce a Track or Route on the map one could then export to a .gpx file.
Perhaps this feature already exist but I am unable to find it.
Ideas anyone?
Tore

1. Import the waypoints from the .gpx file.
2. Click the "Create Route" button from the toolbar.
3. Click on each waypoint you want added to the route.
4. Answer "Yes" to "Use nearby waypoint?".
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each waypoint you want in your route.
6. Press "Escape" to complete the route.

fgd3..
Thanks Fabbian. OK I know it can be done manually, but I meant it should be possible to select the required waypoints in Route Manager and then select a tab to Create Route.

Re: Creating Track / Route from Waypoints in OpenCPN
Sinbad
try GPSBabel:
Input: GPX XML
Output: GPX XML
Data Filter / Misc / Transform, Waypoint -> Routes
Then try to open the new gpx file in opencpn
Let us know how this works for you.
Yes, would be good to have a similar function in opencpn. But then, in which order should the route be created from the waypoints, the nearest is not always the next... So we would need to be able to select the waypoints first, then order the waypoints the way we want, then create a route...

LeaseOnlife..
Thanks, but I think I also tried that, but I will have another go to make sure.
The option to create a route/track in .GPX format is available from the main SPOT account. You just tick/select the required waypoints and choose save as .GPX
It is not possible to select the order of the waypoints as the facility is meant to record the most recent events. You can also save the waypoints to Adventure but it does not show any details, just the route line. This is a large fault in my opinion and I have asked Globalstar-SPOT to rectify this as well as to have an option to display all distances in nm.
I agree it would be a great feature in OpenCPN if this could be made possible.

LeaseOnlife..
Here are attachments to show how the waypoints are selected from the main SPOT account.
1. Download to Adventure
2. Download to various formats
3. Download spesial with selection of required data types.

Sorry about that. I should have realized you already knew that.
Is it merely that you want to select the waypoints for your route from a list rather than from the chart or is there more to it? How do you deal with the issue of ordering waypoints in your route? Isn't the order of waypoints critical?

Re: Creating Track / Route from Waypoints in OpenCPN
Fabbian..
In this case I was using Route manager to import a .gpx file from a previous trip using Globalstar-SPOT. Thereafter I used the menu 'Route from Track'. Similarly,in the Waypoints menu,I would have liked to have a 'Waypoints to Route' option, having selected the required waypoints. The reason being that sometimes only the waypoints are available from a download.
Another matter is of course if you wish to build a new route from the tracks available. In that case you need an option to select the order of the waypoints,a feature which would also be very welcome in the future.
