Re: CPN Macbook - AIS not Recognized

Manually entering /dev/cu.usbmodem14261 w/ a baud of 38400 and the ais is still not recognized.
I can still connect to it o.k. by going through the Pro AIS2 software on the macbook.

You have been told already that only one software can connect to a device.
Trying to help people which are resistant against advices is difficult.

Re: CPN Macbook - AIS not Recognized

Gerhard,

Thanks for that very important reminder. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, after I connect to the AIS using ProAIS2 I always click on "disconnect" prior to leaving so that the connection will be available elsewhere.

Re: CPN Macbook - AIS not Recognized

Success!

After cycling the power on everything again & manually entering. /dev/cu.usbmodem14261 at a baud of 38,400 - Open CPN now is receiving ais data from the macbook

I would like to thank everyone for your help and assistance, Particularly to Gerhard for his patience(even though I never could get that one command of yours to give me any info) Thanks. Also, Fogmachine was able to point us to the name of the adapter with your suggested command. And, finally again Gerhard told me what to do with the named adapter.

I still don't know why this connection does not show up automatically as a choice? ( I will make damn sure that I write it down somewhere)

Lastly, Biggest thanks to Dave for a great contribution to sailors and cruisers worldwide.

Re: CPN Macbook - AIS not Recognized

See, Larry. Gerhard wants it to work for you, he has been very good & is a big resource. We have to have patience and listen, because he is pretty "definitive" sometimes... Right Gerhard?

Glad it got resolved, and thank you Gerhard for trying to help Larry again.

Glad to have helped. With Unix (and its variants like OSX) there are often many different ways to get to a result.
