Constant crash to desk top with Open cpn V5.0

I've just updated to V5.0 as instructed so that my new charts will work but with this version I'm getting constant crash to desk tops with CPN and then shutting down, never had the issue with V4.8, it seems a mouse scroll problem, I've attached an event view log maybe somebody can help me out or are there other users with the same problem.

Cheers Rod.

doublebubble...

Could you post your logfile? Just the section from the last opening of OpenCPN would be good.

Hi Mike,

I think this is what your after, I don't know if the file will open, I really don't know how to attach the log file as the file is not allowed.

Cheers Rod.

Rod...

Sorry, the file does not open.

With the log file 'opencpn.log' add the file extension '.pdf'. Then add that using 'Manage Attachments'. That should work.

Try that Mike. Well that didn't work either, getting frustrated.

Mike

It's a zip file. Swap .pdf for .zip.

Thanks Thomas, I should have tried that.

Rod...
It looks as if you have equipment attached to COM11. Have you tried disconnecting this?

Just wonder if it is connected to loading charts. Hubert (BCN) may have an idea about this. I am probably not going to be able to take this any further. Sorry.

I'm a bit constrained at the moment due to your lack of details and that I can't reach opencpn.org.

But when you update OpenCPN you also have to update the oesenc plugin.
Your log indicate that you are using a dated version.

Have you rebuilt the entire chart database?
Have you turned off Opengl, closed the program and reopened?

Re: Constant crash to desk top with Open cpn V5.0

Hi, trying again, have tried opencpn with openGL turned off, rebuilt all charts, updated oesenc to the latest, tried a different mouse config, nothing, constant CTD less than 30 seconds into OpenCPN starting up, as mentioned before never had this issue with 4.8, where are the clear and concise instructions on how upload the log file? what ever I do nothing works.

Rod...

'Closing NMEA Datastream Serial:COM11'. Is that your GPS? Stupid thought but have you tried disconnecting that?

I still think it could be linked to the charts. If you are prepared to edit 'opencpn.ini' you could remove the lines in [ChartDirectories] that tell OpenCPN the location of your charts.

Code:
[ChartDirectories]
ChartDir1=D:\\My Charts^15244425724967473661
ChartDir2=D:\\My VFKaps^12499039260486505656
Remove just:
Code:
ChartDir1=D:\\My Charts^15244425724967473661
ChartDir2=D:\\My VFKaps^12499039260486505656
Or the equivalent on your system.

This is the same as deleting the locations in 'Options', 'Charts'.

Start OpenCPN and see if the CTD is still with you.

Warning!!!! I do not have any O-Charts to test this!

Re: Constant crash to desk top with Open cpn V5.0

I appreciate your persistence Mike, yes com port 11 is the gps, I have an older nav program called Digiboat Software on Board that I used for years before going to Opencpn, I tried that software today and surprisingly had a CTD, it's done my head in today, I'll have another crack tomorrow and see if changing the com port helps, I won't go changing any ini files yet but a last resort, currently at anchor waiting to go north here in S.E Queensland so hopefully get this sorted out asap.

Cheers Rod.
