Re: Climatology

Evidently sourceforge is not reliable? But Why does ir work for some files and not others?
I think there is a problem with the way the program downloads!!!

Rick...
What is the current best source of the dataset?
Is this current?

Re: Climatology

Dear Dave,
The actual dataset has not changed in a number of years. This file is the file (the one you linked) I just recently downloaded and extracted down past *gz stage to to point that there is no extension and that seems to work in Climatology, it takes a little longer to read certain files however.

I think Climatology always used to use and read compressed *.gz files. In fact climatology has always been distributed to Windows users with the data files included, and for some reason that changed recently.

I don't know if I should figure this out and revert the plugin back to that just before that commit or not, but did-g and sean have been making some other changes too.

So I am really confused about what the problem's are: I think it is a little bit about corrupted files (because a number of automatic plugin downloaded *.gz files would not expand and were not recognized) and also about how climatology program actually handles the downloaded files (which seems to have changed)!

It would be great if we could just include the files or just get the download working properly. Either way is fine. Thank you!

Re: Climatology

Did-g fixed DTOR and the download progress bar and it seemed to be working in ov50,
but I guess not really. Windows was having trouble with some of the wx commands I think.

Rick,

I think the climatology data files were deleted from Sean's repository on GitHub after 09 Jun 2018. Here is a DIR report of the 'data' folder on my PC.

Only two of the files have the '.gz' extension, and both of these have the unzipped versions of the files.

The three '.svg' files are all that remain in the 'data' directory.

Rick,

A good source of the dataset for climatology_pi is the setup package for OpenCPN 4.8.x:

Code:
climatology_pi-1.4.-win32.exe
I think it is dated 31 Mar 2018. That was my source for the files listed in my previous post on this thread.

I built climatology from a clone of Sean's GitHub repo. After copying the data files into the "data" folder, the setup package builds with the data in place. The data files are compressed as the package is built, and decompressed when it is installed. The package for Windows is a little over 6 MB with the data. Without the data, the setup package is less than 600 KB.

Thanks, I guess I'll go back to that version and try to cherry pick did-g and sean's changes so that the ov50 win version includes the data, and includes necessary wxwidgets and progress bar changes.

Rick,

I think you will see that your repository is
Quote:
This branch is even with seandepagnier:master.
(The quote is from GitHub under the "<>Code" tab of your repo.)

Sean's last AppVeyor artifact is an ov50 version for Windows. I have been using it with the Beta releases of OpenCPN.

I think all yours or Sean's need are the data files.

I worked around the missing data by simply copying the data folder from an
O-4.8.8 install to the O-4.9.9 (parallel installs).

Re: Climatology

Rick,

I forked your climatology_pi repository in order to add the climatology files into the data folder. I sent you a pull request.

AppVeyor built the setup package for Windows, and I have installed it into OpenCPN 5.0.0 on my PC. It installs and works.

The data files are from climatology_pi-1.4.-win32.exe. I had it installed in O 4.8.8.

Before Appveyor, someone was adding the climatology data into the official OpenCPN.org release files. The oldest one I could find on my PC was dated 2015. I don't think Sean had these data files in his climatology_pi repository.

Re: Climatology

Paul, Thanks. I accepted the PR and merged. I've been traveling so this is welcomed! Perhaps I added the files at one time, but so has Sean. Anyway I tested climatology, your PR and it worked, so I have replaced the download Release file and it should work now for Windows users.

Thanks so much for your work and PR!

I believe the beta plugins 5 page points to this still.

The wind roses are distorted for me on Windows10.
Is there a setting to correct this?

Oops ... I stayed on the bug of the wrong download files useful to Climatology. I did not see this bug there that I confirm (W10).

Can be a problem of size of the characters?
