EDIT: It allows setting max speed. I couldn't resist and got it running. It takes a while to build a list of 22,660 links off a page. But it's now merrily downloading in the background while I am still VPNd into work. I have it set low enough where I can't tell any difference in response time for work. Thanks again.

I had downloaded about 1/3 of the charts when they upgraded their page! They changed the interface and now package up your selections in a .zip for download. No way for me to get the rest without much labor. Oh, well. I give up.

I found some cool stuff. Not much of use for navigation, but fun to look at.

I found a panoramic photo of the approach to Charleston from 1852.

Chart of the Delaware Bay and river from 1654.

Great close-up of Saint Thomas-Caribbean using 'Google Satellite Map Retriever' which also provided the geo locs for calibration and conversion to .kap.

Maptech

Hi,

I've made it through about 50 pages and have not found the answer to this question. Perhaps it's just that I'm cross-eyed from reading so please forgive if this has been covered.

We are about to cross over to the Bahamas and considering purchasing Maptech Region 9 with the CD and wondering if this CD's charts will work with OpenCPN?

One further question is that I've read that the sketch charts from the Steven Pavlidis guides have been scanned and made usable by OpenCPN but I have not been able to locate these anywhere. I will do so from our own copies of his excellent guides if I must but was hoping someone could point me to the already accomplished ones.

Thanks in advance

George

What 50 pages wold that be?
The first place to go to for information about which charts OpenCPN can display is Chart Formats | Official OpenCPN Homepage.

All charts sold by Maptech is BSB4 or later. OpenCPN version 2.3.1 supports BSB3 and earlier BSB versions. In other words, OpenCPN will not work with the Maptech charts you are asking about.
But ... there is a fair chance that this will change in the, not to far away, future.

Re my #948 Norwegian Coastguard maps....

Please note ALL the nautical maps displayed on the Norwegian Coastguard pages are skewed 5.6 degr. to the right. Remember to skew the bitmaps captured from this site 5.6 degr to the left before calibration/conversion.

Tore, it is not so simple. Norwegian charts are displayed on WEB in UTM X/Y grid (Zone 33). This is a transversal mercator projection with central meridian at 15° East. This means that not always the rotation is 5.6 degress but it depends on longitude. In fact note that at 15° longitude you should have a skew=0.

Let me know.

Ciao, Marco.
