Hi, just to point out some examples of official NOAA RNC charts in projections other than Mercator:

LAMBERT CONFORMAL CONIC
14982_1.KAP
UNIVERSAL TRANSVERSE MERCATOR
14996_1.KAP
MERCATOR

with respect to the NOAA reprojector, I worry that GDAL would ignore the reprojection hints on the ARC/ line and just continue to use the original source values. You've verified that it worked correctly for all regions of the chart?

I converted a few charts for the Gulf of Mexico region only. For each of them I visually checked the georeference by comparing several positions (e.g. lights or buoys) on the TomTom .ecw maps with the positions as given by OpenCPN using the .kap maps. This all looks ok.
Settings used for Reprojector (e.g. for 170101.KAP)
Units: Meters
File format: TIFF
Projection: Mercator
Datum: WGS_84
Central Meridian: 0
Lat of True Scale: 0
False Easting: 20000000
False Northing: 0
Settings used for gdal:
gdal_translate -of ECW -co "TARGET=90" -co "DATUM=WGS84" -co "PROJ=MRWORLD2" -expand rgb 170101.tif 170101.ecw

I know a lot of you complain about XYZ charts. I'm using NOAA charts for my area, (central NJ) and they are no more accurate than anyone elses, including the fact they are updated "weekly" with notice to mariner info. The channels can be off up to 100 meters, buoys that are there, are not shown, buoys that are shown don't exist, soundings are old enough to be useless. NOAA and CM93 MAY 2010 are almost identical here, slight differences in the land outlines, but they both have IDENTICAL problems!

I was looking for a facility giving the option of using the bar scroll method where

Hello Sinbad,
ScreenGrab is an extra for Firefox. With it you can capture the whole window without the need to use the scroll bars. I use it to grab 3600 x 2400 pixel maps from here:

Dutch Zip files
The zip files which are listed on the dutch website for OpenCPN generate an error when trying to unzip them. The message states that the files are empty, but they are 3 Mb in size. I tried to re-download them, but the same result. Any suggestions ?
Thanks,
Idso Brouwer.

Thomas, thanks for the reply, but in the mean time I tried it on 4 different computers running Windows XP and Windows7. Some are other peoples PC's and I still get the same error message, also on the two files you tried.
Which unzip utility are you using ? is it in a special format ?
Thanks,
Idso.

I use standard Linux- Ubuntu "Ark" which probably uses "gzip" or "unzip". The downloaded charts, could be "corrupted", they display as "grayed" out with a lot of red bouys, and not much more. Certainly not what I expected.

New Zealand Charts, CHARTCAL-V29, October 2010
Hello. Here is the new version of New Zealand Charts Portfolio for you. Changes from V28 to V29 involve 14 maps reprinted or updated by LINZ. These are the details:
LINZ released a new version of some chart images.
* NZ4421
* NZ2681_1
* NZ2681_2
* NZ2681_3
* NZ2681_4
* NZ2681_5
* NZ63
* NZ64
* NZ76
* NZ46
* NZ463
* NZ4633
* NZ6821
* NZ6821_1
Please, substitute/rebuild those charts if you have old versions.
If you want all upgrades above, download the new ChartCal-V29.zip ( MCE66 - Software ) and rebuild with KapGen all the changed/new charts (but first delete the tif files of the above list of maps from /Img folder if you have already downloaded or built them).
Of course you can also just download the Update set of charts already built NewZealandNauticalCharts_Upgrade_V28_up_to_V29.7z you can find at the same location ( MCE66 - Software ).
Let me know. Ciao, Marco.

MAP TILER - CM92 - GM - KAP
Did an interesting conversion this morning adding a .kap overlay of soundings obtained from a CM92 map of Holehaven-Thames.
I uploaded a normal CM92 map display of the Holehaven area of the Thames estuary.
Using the OpenCPN vector chart setup,I deleted all the Mariners standard configurations in the box and then added just the items strating with 'BOY'
I took a screen dump of the resulting soundings and buoys only display and saved it. Switching back to the vector chart setup screen I re-enabled all the options and displayed the chart. I then made a note of 4 suitable buoy locations as calibration points.
After editing the saved soundings file and adding a suitable pale blue background,I saved it and used MapCal to calibrate it to a .kap file.
Finally,using MapTiler and adding the new soundings.kap file, I created and saved the resulting MapTile rendering.
Don't know what it's good for but it was fun doing.....

I used 7-zip ( 7-Zip) to unzip the dutch maps without a problem, got them from the FTP link not sure if that makes a difference.
The maps aren't prefect though, the wadden, hoorn and some of the other maps are not working correct for me. They load but some layers seam to be missing or something.

Hi Christiaan,
welcome to the forum! The quality of the Dutch charts varies greatly from place to place as they were originally created by different entities as far as I know. They also use pretty "interesting" combinations of attributes which are not yet covered by our rasterization rules sometimes. Not to mention that we are still not done with all the IENC extensions to the rules.
There's some discussion which might be interesting to you at http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...y-41640-4.html and http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...cpn-35193.html and a few other places I don't remember right now

I'm having a frustrating time downloading CM93/2 May 2010 from [removed illegal link]. I get partial segments, dropped or broken links and other problems. Does anyone have a good download link or possibly a working torrent? I'd like to get the charts so I can get OpenCPN set up.
Thanks.
