Chart Formats

Hola: I'm new to this so forgive me my mistakes. I've just loaded OpenCPN 2.5 (3.0 wouldn't work) and tried to move all my Maptech Mexican, C.A., and S.A. charts over. It didn't work. The format is not included in the OpenCPN list. Can I do this? How?

Hard to say, without knowing what format you are talking about!
What's the file extension for your chart files?

Re: Chart Formats

Sorry! Here is an example: In the folder CHARTHDR there is a file labelled M00107S0.HDR. It is 256 bytes. I suspect this is the tool to open another folder labelled M00107SO which contains files with an extension of a letter followed by two numbers. Example: .A01, .A02, etc. These files average 14-40 kb. and are probably the actual charts. There are corresponding sets of folders/files for all of Mexico, C.A., and part of S.A. All the .HDR files are 256 bytes. Loading these files into Maptech Offshore Navigator was a matter of simply clicking on the icons.

They are HDR charts consisting of a lot of pcx picture tiles and a small binary file. I just answered a similar question here http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ml#post1026751

The chart format is mentioned in Chart Formats | Official OpenCPN Homepage
under the heading "Not supported formats that can be converted."

Re: Chart Formats

Thanks...I think I'll look for more up-to-date charts of those areas.
