chart File won't upload

chart 18603 (Crescent City) shows in my file directory in the correct order, but won't display when I try to go from 18600 to a larger scale. 18602 loads fine. I have re-downloaded the file a couple of times but OpenCPN won't automatically load it. Is there some way to force the program to read the file?

I am a new user, so all advice welcome.

Re: chart File won't upload

Please have a look at the OpenCPN documentation. There is a lot about charts there.

If you press the "Q"- key you should go from "quilted" made to "single chart" mode, and the chart-rectangles in the chart bar should have 90-degrees corners instead of rounded. If you press all available chart rectangles, each one representing a chart, can you then find 28603 ?

If not, please attach your opencpn log file. Instructions are available in the documentation.

Re: chart File won't upload

Pressing Q didn't help.
Where do I find my "log" file?? I looked under the "About " tab in the help menu but the folder it names doesn't exist (c:\program data\ ....). I have checked every folder in my "Opencpn" file folder in c:\programx86" directory and there is no file ending in the file extension "'ini".
What am I doing wrong?

Re: chart File won't upload

Under Windows the file explorer hides (system) files in standard configuration.
The Program Data folder is one of those.

Is this supposed to be a joke??

Please rephrase your answer so I can determine:
1. The name of the file I am looking for; and
2. The location of that file.

Thanks.

Re: chart File won't upload

Well, now we can argue if Windows is a joke or not...
Btw. other OS do have similar settings.

The screenshot below is from a German Windows, but you will for sure find the options in your system.
Windows File Explorer, Options (right upper corner), in the Options "Views" and then enable "show hidden files and folders/directories".

And being in this options you might disable "hide common file types" or something in this style. Ugly when a mail attachment is something executable (--> virus) and you don't see wht it is...

Apply this for all directories (button in directory/folder options)

And you shall be able to locate the files as indicated in the help dialogue of OCPN.

Re: chart File won't upload

I found the two files. However, the Cruisers Forum program won't let me attach them because they are not in an authorized format. Now what??

Re: chart File won't upload

Just change the file extension to ".doc". Or add .doc ---> .ini.doc .txt.doc

You might want to compress/zip the file if it is very long. Usually not required for the .ini or the log file.

OpenCPN does not show 18603_1.KAP or 18603_2.KAP, because the program can't find the charts. These charts are nowhere in your log.
Let's backpedal and recheck your downloaded files. Do you have a folder
C:\Users\OSPREY877\Documents\Charts\RNC\US_WA\1860 3 ? Do you have a 18603 folder anywhere else?
If yes. Does the content match this ?

The 18603 file was in my download file. I just did another "scan and update" in the chart directory and the 18603 file now loads properly.
I'm pretty sure I tried this before a couple of times with no result, but now works.

Thanks for all your help. Exercise was not a complete waste as I now better understand how the files work. Thanks again.
