Hello everyone

I'm from Argentina, the links for the raster charts here are down.

According to the National Hydrography Institute they will not offer the raster charts anymore, going to a paid service for vector ENCs. They confirmed me this info in a series of emails.

The latest update for those charts was in 2017, and are still useful. I don't know if it's prudent to offer links to outaded charts, but probably is better than nothing at all.

If you think so, I can do a pull request for the catalogue at https://github.com/chartcatalogs pointing the links to the latetst snapshot in web.archive.org. I'v already tested it and works, may be I need to fix a couple of links.

Would be nice to get this working again, tell me if I can help.

Yes, please send a PR, I will merge it right away. I'm a bit affraid archive.org might be a bit slow, but if it turns to be so, we can simply host the charts somewhere else. BTW, the ENCs are not better (and completely missing essential charts like H-477 here in the south, same as the raster set was...)

I'm sending you the catalogue pointing to archive.org. It's slow indeed, it would be great to be able to host them in a faster site. If you have such a place let me know if I can help zipping all together, redoing the catalogue or testing.

Can’t you use release folder of OpenCPN github?

Need a mechanism to select the downloader to
1) optionally automatically check and alert on new/updated charts in the regions selected
2) optionally download those new/updated charts
3) optionally alert they've been downloaded
4) optionally retain prior set as a backup

Preferentially would be able run in the background regardless of whether user is logged in or OpenCPN is running (which would preclude a plugin)

I am from Austria / Europe and the chart downloader works not well.


I think the problem is an old / not supportet "source catalog" like:

The issue for Austria is: only download old ENC from 2021
The issue f.e. German: Check works, but download fail


I use latest version 5.8.4 and "update chart soure catalog"

Thanks for the report.

The Austrian catalog has to be maintained manually and you are the first that reports there are newer charts available. Do you happen to have a link to the download page where they are currently listed?

For Germany, the data feed in which ELWIS provides the list of the charts to download used to generate the catalogs is again broken, not much we can do until they fix it.

The Austrian catalog has been updated, they now even implemented a RSS data feed that we can process automatically...

We would need them to restore the generation of the missing ienc_feed.xml file or any similar solution that replaces it. What's left of my German is way too little for communication with any government agency there...
