Changing Date for Tides/Currents

I am running the current 4.0 version of OpenCPN. I see that to change dates for tides and currents it looks like you can only do so by nudging in one day at a time. If you are planning for a cruise weeks or more into the future, this is annoying. I had a recollection that with earlier versions of OpenCPN the dates could be more directly selected, but I could also be mistaken on this. Am I missing anything, or are we limited to bump it one day at a time?

Re: Changing Date for Tides/Currents

There has bee no change in the basic tidal dialog of the core OpenCPN program, for the 4.0 release.
Read through The Route Manager and Gpx Data | Official OpenCPN Homepage.

Creating a route leads to possibilities of tidal date manipulations. From the manual ..
Quote:
It is essential to enter a departure time and a planned speed. Once "Enter" is pressed the tidal column will show the nearest High or Low water considering the ETA at each waypoint.
So by manually changing the departure time all tidal info will be recalculated.
Perhaps this is what you were thinking about....?

Re: Changing Date for Tides/Currents

Try using OTcurrents plugin found in Opencpn Beta File Thingie link above. It works the way you might expect it to and is a good planning tool. OpenCPN tides work fine but they are not as useful for planning, as there is so much going on, and this is not as high priority.

Re: Changing Date for Tides/Currents

Thanks for the suggestion on the Plugin. That works very nicely. Now if only it included tide heights. Any suggestion for that?

Re: Changing Date for Tides/Currents

Hello,

As well as the OTCurrent plugin I made this TideFinder plugin. It is in the early stages and needs a lot of work but the basic functionality may help you.

Please be really careful with checking your computer/zone time and that the results compare correctly with the normal OpenCPN Tidal Data.

http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...in-139491.html

Because of the density (number) of U.S. tidal stations you may need to zoom in close to your area of interest.

Re: Changing Data for Tides/Currents

Hi everyone, has anyone got either an active link to or a copy of the .zip file for the "rest of the world" tidal set that is not installed on OpenCPN? (I found mention of "Terry's site" in a blog but the link is dead). I am sailing in SE Asia and the area is blank for tides. Any help would be wonderful.

Re: Changing Date for Tides/Currents

Terry has an email newsletter that he sends out, his email includes many links to harbors, sat2chart files, etc. I think you should get on his email list PM him in this forum. The last one was

TERRY’S TOPICS #120: RECAP AS OF 9 January 2022 it is a docx file.
I did not see any tide file listed but might have missed it.

Re: Changing Date for Tides/Currents

BTW. Opencpn has tide files for the rest of the world, just not the ones you want.
