Center View Mangles Display in Ubuntu

I'm running OpenCPN 4.4.0 on Ubuntu 14.04 and 16.04 and discovered this problem on both. I right click on the chart and select "Center View" from the pop up menu. I enter a position. It looks like "Center View 2.png" attached. I click "OK". Now the screen looks like "Center View 3.png" attached. When I try pressing the "+" or "-" key and I discover the program has lost focus. I click somewhere to restore focus, zoom in or out, and the display is restored and the chart centered on the position I entered.

Next I turn on auto-follow to return to my starting location. The garbled display appears again. Focus is not lost and I can restore the display by zooming in or out.

Can anyone duplicate this?

I'll try this in Windows soon and report the results.

Are you using opengl?
Post your log file.

Does this error always occur when enabling autofollow or center view dialog or only sometimes? What about vector/raster? What about with no charts (only world background visible) ?

Doesn't happen with Windows 10.

The error happens every time I use the "Center View" dialog. It happens every time I turn on auto follow to return from the "Center View" jump. It does not happen at other times I turn on auto follow.

I am not using opengl.

My log file from Ubuntu 14.04 is attached as "opencpn.log.doc". In the session covered by the log file I launched OpenCPN, used "Center View" to move to a second location, and used auto follow to return to my starting location. "Center View 1.png" shows the screen just before I clicked "OK" in the "Center View" dialog. "Center View 2.png" shows the screen just after I clicked "OK".

"Center View 3.png" shows the screen after I clicked "OK" in the "Center View" dialog when a vector chart was displayed. When I restored the display by zooming OpenCPN switched me to a raster chart. When I returned home (with auto follow) I was still on a raster chart.

When I tried the experiment with Windows 10 I started from a raster chart and was switched to a vector chart at the destination, but the display was OK.

Re: Center View Mangles Display in Ubuntu

When I turned on opengl and tried jumping with "Center View" the response time was severely degraded. The display still went black, as in the previous posting. When I tried to return home with auto follow the display went black and I couldn't restore it. The computer bogged down so badly I had to force a power down.

On my Ubuntu 16.04 system the results were similar. My logfile from the session is attached as "opencpn.log.doc". "Center View 1.png" shows the screen before I clicked "OK" in the "Center View" dialog. "Center View 2.png" shows the screen after I clicked "OK". "Center View 3.png" shows the screen with a vector chart selected just before I clicked "OK" in the "Center View" dialog. "Center View 4.png" shows the screen after I clicked "OK".

Opengl was turned off.

Re: Center View Mangles Display in Ubuntu

Looking at your log, it's clear that O does not find any plugins, not even the built in plugins. There seems to be something missing in the installation or the package.
I'm running Ubuntu 14.04/64 bits, and I have never seen this problem.

Re: Center View Mangles Display in Ubuntu

Fabbian...
We can see from your screenshots that after you select "JumpTo..", the high-light on the chart bar shifts to the smallest scale raster chart available. The present view scale would be extremely overzoomed for this chart. And the rasterizer breaks down. There's your problem.

I'm pretty sure that this bug was noted earlier, and fixed in github master commit:

9661f06722138533acb5d2280263c72f8b007842
"Correct JumpToPostion, allowing Quilt to select "best" chart."

Interested devs may want to revert this commit and verify.

Thanks
Dave

Re: Center View Mangles Display in Ubuntu

Thanks, Dave. How do I get a version of the program with the bug fixed?
