Can't Open Newly Downloaded OpenCPN on MacBook Pro

Greetings, new member here. I can't get the program to open.

I have downloaded the program on both Chrome and Safari several times, from two different sites including the original. Whenever I try to open it, I get

"The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error 99999.)"

I tried to clear a possible corrupt System Policy in Terminal (recommended on Apple Communities) to no avail.

13" Mid 2012 MacBook Pro, 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Anybody have any recommendations? It seems as this is the only plotting software for Mac OSX...

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

It’s good software with good support. Reach out to them. The guy that created these programs is really good with customers.

Thanks for the response! I looked fairly thoroughly at their website. Under contact, it states pretty clearly that all technical issues should be brought to their forum. Clicking on the link brings me to this forum. Is there an email address that I'm not seeing?

Thanks again...

I did run a few searches in the forum, but the search engine returns huge numbers of threads that don't seem to hold relevance. I'll try again later this evening.

Thank you.

How did you install the program? Did you drag it into the Application folder?
From where do you start it?
(writing from a Mac...)

Are you sure you've followed the installation instructions correctly? It should run fine on your computer. Having said that, I've never seen an error message anything like that. What version of macos are you running?

When does the developers finally distribute OpenCPN for macOS together with an installer? It was done times ago for some plugins but not for the main program.
Users casually working with a Mac does not know what a DMG file is and starting a software direct from the downloaded DMG has no success at all.

Re: Can't Open Newly Downloaded OpenCPN on MacBook Pro

High Sierra is the OS.

I downloaded the .dmg file, opened that, dragged that into the Applications folder, deleted the .dmg file, then opened the app from the Applications folder. I get a message indicating it's not from a recognized developer, or something to that effect, I go to System Preferences/Privacy Security, and there's a box asking if I want to open the app anyway. I click on it, and then get a box asking if I' sure, click yes on that, then the error code comes up.

This is the only time I have ever seen the message.

Re: Can't Open Newly Downloaded OpenCPN on MacBook Pro

I did a little research on this. What I can tell is that it is nothing to do with the software itself. It’s a Mac problem. Happens to some people sometimes.

You should try deleting the application from the applications folder and for fun, just re-download the whole thing again. Or use MacENC... That’s what I use. It’s been flawless since day one.

But basically just delete the application from your applications folder and start again.

If that doesn’t work, you could also try this.

Re: Can't Open Newly Downloaded OpenCPN on MacBook Pro

I have deleted/uploaded it five times now, on Safari and Chrome. I did the Terminal commands found on Apple Communities.

I'll look for and try MacENC.

Thank you...

I think you’ll find MacENC is pretty good. I have used it forever. And for some reason I had mixed up the two with my initial post. The guy that created MacENC has great customer support. You can’t go wrong with it. It’s worth paying a few dollars for it.

I’m a very satisfied customer

Doing some googling, there might be some problems with Mackey and see now. Mojave incompatibility.

I run it on an old laptop. My navigation laptop is not my primary laptop anymore. I made that mistake years ago. It flew down into a hull and was destroyed.

MacENC has been replaced by iNavX, which is only available on iOS, I believe...

It looks that way. Sorry about the outdated information.

This more than likely has to do with application signing on osx. I wrote a bit about it under the watchdog plugin forum thread.

crayii...

I'm no Mac expert, but if it were related to app signing, then would not all users of the same version of MacOS be reporting similar issues?
