Cannot get AIS working

Please be gentle. I am a computer dummy. I tried searching but results are overwhelming.

Panasonic CF53 with small plug in GPS receiver in USB port, downloaded OpenCPN and charts. That all works.

EmTrak class B AIS transceiver. I know it works because I show up on vessel tracking sites.

I am not seeing other vessels that show up on same site. I have clicked off the “hide moored vessels” box.
On My Computer, is says AIS is working on COM6.

I looked in the manual and I don’t see instructions on how to get openCPN to accept or recognize the AIS input. I think I just need to configure something to do it but I am not experienced enough to know where to start.

Re: Cannot get AIS working

It's possibly the baud rate of the com port which is probably defaulted to 4800. Try setting it to 34800 baud in OpenCPN settings

Re: Cannot get AIS working

Options|Connections
--> Add connection
--> serial --> select the serial port the em-trak is in (shoud show up in the drop down list of ports) --> baudrate 38400 --> apply

Make sure that no other program is using the connection. For example the one to configure the em-trak.

Re: Cannot get AIS working

Had to add connection.

All is Golden Happiness. Thanks for the assist.

I am definitely a monkey-see, monkey-do kind of guy when it comes to computers.
