Bug in display of mbtiles maps

Hardware/Software details:
OpenCPN: Version 5.10
OS: Windows 11 Pro 23H2
Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900K CPU @ 3.60GHz
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 (Latest Drivers)
Repeatable (and also occurred in last version of OpenCPN)
Also happens on other users PC's (various types)

Issue:
mbtiles map with transparent background shows all/many zoom levels at once.
Doesn't matter if map quilting is on or off (but I want to quilt the data over another map)

Screenshot of issue:

Screenshot of map working correctly in Locus Maps on Android:

Thanks for looking...

Brian.

Re: Bug in display of mbtiles maps

Are you working with 5.10.0?
because in your screenshot O shows that you're on version 5.8.4.

Re: Bug in display of mbtiles maps

Hi Corsair,
Yep, I installed 5.10 to check if the issue was still there but forgot to take an updated screenshot.
I also deleted the .ini file to let it rebuild with the new version.

CSIG...
Will you post a link to the MBTiles files(s) shown above?

Thanks
Dave

Re: Bug in display of mbtiles maps

Hi Dave,
I am unable to post a link to the full charts but I have created a small subset of data that still exhibits the same issue.
Location if you need it....
https://i.postimg.cc/xdkyGTc3/Overview.png
https://i.postimg.cc/7YmgpTzN/Closeup.png
link to files
https://1drv.ms/f/c/24c2a135414077cd...9HxXA?e=vezKGp

For some reason, with theses test files, I cannot get the spot depths overlay to display on top of the basemap - but the spot depths on it's own shows the issue.

Any ideas on why the overlay spot depths are "underneath" the basemap?

many thanks for your help

Brian.

Brian...
I took a crack at the MBTiles overlay rendering question.
You might like to test the result here:

Good Luck, and please let me know how it goes.
Thanks
Dave

Re: Bug in display of mbtiles maps

Hi Dave,

Many thanks for the quick response.
Your fix works perfectly.
I also had an overlay for depth contours that exhibited the same issue and that now renders perfectly as well.

Brian...
Glad it is working well now.
FWIW, this is the first instance of sensible and useful OVERLAY tiles that we have encountered. Nice to get it working as expected.

Good Luck
Dave

Re: Bug in display of mbtiles maps

The main reason for the overlay is to allow the users the ability of switching the contours on and off (especially easy with the fantastic chart groups).
It also opens the door to us just producing a single background map and then giving the users the ability to switch between metric and imperial spot depths easily and with a minimal increase in chart storage.
Thanks again for the great application and your speedy response to fixing the issue.
best regards,
Brian.
