BU353-N5 GPS Puck will it work for OCPN

I have been unsuccessfully attempting to connect a Globalsat BU353-N5 GPS Puck to my laptop for Open CPN. I note that the manual refers to S4 not N5, however the literature suggest that the S4 would just be better than the N5 but serve the same function. Has anyone else successfully used the N5 and could advise?

Especially keen to make this work as my Android Tab Open CPN seems to have lost the plot.

Thanks

Phil

What OS are you using? I had one of those but I recall it stopped working with Windows several versions ago.

Hi Colin,
I am using a Windows, running Microsoft 365. I had the impression that the N5 superseded the S4?

There IS an N5 manual, and it does seem that the N model is newer than the S model. (Looking at the globalsat.com.tw website). It says S4 is "end of life".

Here is a link to the N5 web page. You can download the N5 manual there.

Have you installed the driver? Have you taken your laptop outside so it can get a fix? Is the little red light flashing (if it is off or solid, you have no power or it hasn't gotten a fix yet)?

Wow! a reply from Soggy Paws.
I'm honoured.

I have downloaded the driver and confirmed through the driver that a position is being received. The red light is flashing.

The settings I have in my Open CPN are:
Enable, Serial, Input, nmea2000, Com13, 4800, 1

There's your problem, these GPS's only do NMEA183.
Glad it's a simple fix!

I changed to NMEA 0813 and it worked.

Much kudos and positive Karma to the crew of Soggy Paws.
