BR24 Radar Image Freezes

Hello,

I have been using the latest BR24radar pi extensively in stand-alone mode and I am very impressed with the capabilities. There is one glitch. The image freezes after about 1/2 hour of running. I must then stop O (clicking on the radar icon does not get me back to chart display) and restart it.

Environment: Xubuntu 1510, 64-bit AMD CPU and 4 GB of RAM. I do have AIS connected which also gives me position information. No other signal is connected. Using the latest O beta, but the problem was the same with 4.2. The PI is 1.32 from the repositories.

BTW, I really like the fact that I can change range using the mouse wheel.

Cheers, ....Erik.

Erik...

you might want to observe memory usage and check if there is a memory leak.
Either in the BR24 or in the core OCPN.

Re: BR24 Radar Image Freezes

This has been an issue for a while.

Discussed here:
https://github.com/canboat/BR24radar_pi/issues/88

It seems to be fixed in the latest branch that is under development "RADAR Window"; But, I'm not sure when that will be finished/released, so it would be good to get the problem fixed in the current version.

Cheers,
JM.

Re: BR24 Radar Image Freezes

Hi Erik,

Thank you for reporting this issue.

I have not seen this problem under Windows yet myself.
Did you also have this issue with 1.31 or is it new in 1.32?
Can you mail me the log file made with verboselog = 1 (in the ini file). If the log is too big, sent only the last bit. I am on the boat now, bad internet.
mail to df at percussion.nl

Re: BR24 Radar Image Freezes

I've been distracted from working on the radarwindow branch, boat needed love and care as well. But it has allowed me to assess what is needed before that branch can be released to a larger audience.

Douwe, there wasn't one particular bug other than just general multi threading issues with one thread interfering with others. Those have been fixed in the 'radarwindow' branch.

Most multi threading issues were solved in recent releases, but there may indeed be some left. But do always set verboseLog = 0 (except when debugging), otherwise wxWidgets output in the receive threads gets active and these are not thread-safe.
But in the upcoming radar window version these issues have been eliminated from the beginning and should not occur at all.

Re: BR24 Radar Image Freezes

Hi Douwe,

I checked the log (without modifying the ini file) and did not see anything reported. My boat is currently hauled out for some bottom work, so I may not get to do another test for a while.

If the problem is solved in a upcoming release, it is probably a wasted effort, anyway.

Cheers, ....Erik.

I am OK to wait for the new version; I did not know if it was still progressing, glad to hear that it is.

When my RADAR freezes I can simply click one of the control buttons to start it again.

Cheers,
JM.
