Blue Screen Shut Downs

I have a lot of dumps when using OpenCPN. Is it possibly because of the sauce of my CMaps?
This is the technical detail I get after the event.

I really like my CMap charts and have used to them for many years, but may be someone can help me sort it out, or suggest another free to use chart base. Currently we are heading Singapore to Borneo/Phillipines to Micronesia and eventually Australia.

Sounds like a memory problem, how much do you have?

On my C Drive I have 110 Gb free of 150. It is a very new Asus LapTop.

That's not memory, thats storage on the hard disk. How much RAM do you have?

Ok, not a memory problem then as you have plenty and being a newish machine, should be working fine.

Best advise is to do the usual uninstall and re-install the Open CPN software.

Thankyou. I have done a huge check of Windows 7 system today. But I will give it a few days to see if it crashes again. I did have problems trying to to get it to do a diagnosis of "memory problems". Some file is missing and the computer did not want to boot up again. I have no idea if it fixed the problem itself, or not. But the computer is alive. Jillie

Sounds like you have a hardware problem for sure, possibly still a memory problem. Not for lack of memory but a memory stick that is causing you grief. You could also have some kind of malware, but I would put my money on a bad memory stick. Sometimes just popping them out and reseating them will fix the problem.

Did you run the extended memory check? Sometimes by swapping memory sticks, one for the other, will show up the problem.

BCCode: 44 = a driver error.
You need to go to C:\Windows\Minidump and zip up all those files. Post those ona file sharing site and send me the link. I can look at the dumps and see which driver is acttng nauti (ok that was baaad). Once the bad driver is identified, you will need to goto the manufacturers web site. (not the computer manufacturer, the part manufacturer) and download the latest driver from them. If you have installed something new to your PC, then that is most likely the culprit, and I would simply start with replacing that driver before going through all the above.

Thanks guys. This is now a tomorrow job. I certainly don't know how to reseat a memory stick. But I will follow the other directions tomorrow and see how we go.

I wonder why you do not use the obvious sources!?

Unfortunately windows can not open the dmp file and I have been all over the shop/internet trying.
The 2nd file - appdata- I can not locate.?
xeon tsd. I am a bit wrorried about "sharing".
deepfrz. I will have a go at reseating the memory stick.

Windows 7 gets 'Blue Screen' crashes? That's so 1990's. That's not an application (OpenCPN) issue it's a OS or hardware issue. It might be some improper/illegitimate driver, like your serial card driver for the GPS?

We are 2011, so it still happens.
But yes, my thoughts wereoriginally along the same lines, but no one has confirmed. I do not have any illegitimate drivers, but my copy of CMap charts is certainly sus. Can this upset the cart? Do I have to go and find new charts?
