Do you like Dr. Seuss? Took me all night to trace the sock(Seuss hat) off a googled wind sock photo... sun and clouds stolen from oxygen icon project again (GPL).

I don't care what the icon looks like, I just can't wait to see where this leads with OpenCPN!

Dave..

You might be interested to see the Fugawi Marine ENC 'experimental' GRIB display..
It is also quite configurable and gets the GRIB data by e-mail polling.

More info here:

And more from Frank Singleton:

I think the Fugawi work is good, but I've seen similar but with different coloured wind strength indicators. Makes the whole picture more easily "readable"

GRIB Icons

Manimaul....

I like DR Seuss.
I could use c++ code as before for the 32x32 version , please.
Just this icon would be fine, and I'll patch it in....

Thanks
Dave

Multi-core CPU

General Query to All....

We are tracking a bug under Windows XP which causes a very infrequent crash due to random memory corruption. One suspect in the problem is the presence of multi-core CPUs. We would like to eliminate this suspect if possible.

Questions: Who is using a multi-core CPU with opencpn on Windows?
What is your NMEA/AIS configuration? Any Virtual ports setup?
Any unexplained crashes under heavy NMEA/AIS input load? These crashes may take hours to appear....

Blubaju: please confirm CPU?

Thanks for the input
Dave

Hope you got it, yes still crashes and yes: multicore,

Intel Core2Duo T5500 Mobile, 1666 MHz (11.5 x 145)
Instruction Set x86, x86-64, MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3
Original Clock 1667 MHz
L1 Code Cache 32 KB
L1 Data Cache 32 KB
L2 Cache 2 MB (On-Die, ATC, Full-Speed)

3 GB memory; can send you an Everest_Home report if any help

but the crashes are NOT related to heavy AIS traffic, never more than 4 ships.
nmea input with Fransons GPS-Gate, not much "traffic" either as instruments are switched off on land

Ports: like head of Hydra
COM 1,2,3,4, part of mainboard for 2 SSB Radios, AIS and NMEA direct connection

Virtual ports from 5 to 19 for various programs (some GPS-Gate created for other nav-software) further more for communication, Bluetooth, Nokia Cellphone (Modem), GPS-Mouse (wired), Camera etc

whenever openCPN crashes GPS-Gate crashes too, but without openCPN the other Nav-programs work fine with GPS-Gate. I hope you found the problem.

We will be in water in January, any news already about Windows 7/64? I would like to upgrade from XP32 to 7/64 before touching water. Scared of the driver issue though ;-)

Multi-core CPU

Dave,

Re:
Multi-core CPU question and crashes

I believe you are talking about the problem that I am having and sent you the dump for.

I am running XP Home on an Acer computer that has an Intel Atom N270 processor that I believe is NOT a Dual core cpu.

I am using Franson GPSGate to feed openCPN and a few other programs including SeaClear and Fugawi. openCPN crashes every couple of hours but when it crashes, it does not crash GPSGate or the other programs that is feeding. I would say that when it does crash the AIS traffic is fairly light.

Dave,

Re the crash problem: Do you still want me to download the debug version of openCPN? If so the link

http://southbaynetwork.com/opencpn/opencpn_debug.exe

doesn't seem to be valid.

My tide data ends on November 1st. I'm not sure if this is a dynamic data that is updated and I have it blocked with my network setting or if it relates to a file Dave mentioned in build 929. I did not wipe out my old install I just overlayed as I have a lot of charts and wanted to keep my configuration. Is there a new data file that I need to load? Thanks all, Dan

Dave: here is your grib.png as cpp and h as requested:

grib.zip

zip includes: grib.cpp, grib.h, grib.svg

Phiggins: I have a N270 as well running Ubuntu and Windows 7, interesting it shows up to the OS as dual core because of hyperthreading but is only a single core. What tomfoolery!

I have reported it before but I've had no crashes what so ever running Vista basic on my Acer Aspire 5315,Celeron 550,2Ghz,533MHz FSB,1MBL2 cache.

My laptop runs 12-14 hours per day continuously and regularly handles data from some 7000 vessels. I frequently de-install and install maps using the bsb conversion facility.
Also testing many different GRIB programs with data... BUT, no crashes..

Perhaps you can use this fact in your eliminating process?
